Position Summary
The Middle School English Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction in literature, composition, grammar, and communication skills to students in grades 7 – 8. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about teaching, highly organized, and committed to student success in a structured, disciplined environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with South Carolina state curriculum standards
- Teach English courses that may include teaching specific skills related to writing, grammar, and vocabulary
- Monitor evening study hall once a week for 90 minutes
- Coach or serve as a faculty advisor for at least two extracurricular activities, such as athletics and clubs
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, discipline, and a strong work ethic
- Assess student progress through regular feedback, assignments, and formal evaluations
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and educational technologies
- Collaborate with faculty and leadership to uphold the Academy’s mission and values
- Participate actively in the broader life of the Academy, including student mentorship, extracurricular activities, and school events
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related field
- Strong knowledge of English language, literature, and composition
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a structured, focused learning environment
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) for instructional and administrative tasks
- A passion for working with high school-aged boys in a structured, values-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience in a middle school, high school, and/or private school setting
- Understanding of military school structure and cadet life
- Familiarity with college preparatory curriculum and student development strategies
