Position Summary

The Middle School English Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction in literature, composition, grammar, and communication skills to students in grades 7 – 8. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about teaching, highly organized, and committed to student success in a structured, disciplined environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with South Carolina state curriculum standards
  • Teach English courses that may include teaching specific skills related to writing, grammar, and vocabulary
  • Monitor evening study hall once a week for 90 minutes
  • Coach or serve as a faculty advisor for at least two extracurricular activities, such as athletics and clubs
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, discipline, and a strong work ethic
  • Assess student progress through regular feedback, assignments, and formal evaluations
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and educational technologies
  • Collaborate with faculty and leadership to uphold the Academy’s mission and values
  • Participate actively in the broader life of the Academy, including student mentorship, extracurricular activities, and school events

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of English language, literature, and composition
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a structured, focused learning environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Classroom, etc.) for instructional and administrative tasks
  • A passion for working with high school-aged boys in a structured, values-driven environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience in a middle school, high school, and/or private school setting
  • Understanding of military school structure and cadet life
  • Familiarity with college preparatory curriculum and student development strategies
