Position Overview
Camden County is seeking a detail‑oriented and motivated Planning & Permitting Field Inspector to join our team. This full‑time position (35‑hour work week) plays a key role in ensuring development projects comply with county codes, environmental standards, and permitting requirements. The Inspector conducts field visits, evaluates onsite wastewater systems, interprets engineered site plans, and maintains accurate documentation throughout the permitting and inspection process. Hourly rate $19.50 - $21.00 depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections for planning, zoning, and permitting compliance.
- Evaluate and verify onsite wastewater systems for proper installation and function.
- Interpret site plans, engineered drawings, and zoning codes to ensure project compliance.
- Navigate and work in rough terrain and inclement weather during site visits.
- Document inspection findings thoroughly, including written reports, correspondence, and photographic evidence.
- Maintain accurate permit records and update internal tracking systems.
- Process and investigate complaint files, including site evaluations and follow‑up documentation.
- Communicate effectively with property owners, contractors, engineers, and county staff.
- Utilize Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel for daily administrative tasks.
- Manage time efficiently to balance field inspections, office work, and reporting deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- General knowledge of:
- Onsite wastewater systems
- Planning & zoning codes
- Site plans and engineered designs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in challenging terrain and weather conditions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
