What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Control position at Camden County?
Position Summary:
The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing local and state animal control laws and ordinances throughout Camden County. This position involves the humane capture, handling, and care of stray, injured, or dangerous animals, as well as educating the public on responsible pet ownership and animal safety. Job training is provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to calls and complaints regarding stray, injured, neglected, or dangerous animals.
- Enforce animal-related laws, ordinances, and regulations.
- Safely capture and transport animals to shelters or veterinary facilities as needed.
- Investigate reports of animal cruelty, neglect, or bites and prepare related reports.
- Assist law enforcement officers during incidents involving animals.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, incidents, and impounded animals.
- Educate the public on animal welfare, licensing, and safety practices.
- Care for animals in custody.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Experience working with animals preferred.
- Ability to handle animals safely and humanely under stressful conditions.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.
