The Entry-Level EHS Associate supports the implementation and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety programs within a chemical manufacturing facility. This role assists in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards. The technician will help identify workplace hazards, promote a culture of safety, and contribute to continuous improvement of safety performance. The primary objective is to ensure a safe and incident-free work environment including methodologies, initiatives and strategies that promote safe operations, safety awareness, training and continuous improvement to eliminate or control unsafe behaviors, environments and hazards.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITILES:
Deliver Safety Programs:
- Assist in training employees in worksite safety practices.
- Promote and cultivate a safety-focused culture.
- Embed safety as a core value for all employees.
Orientation and Collaboration:
- Lead Safety Orientation for new employees.
- Collaborate with employees to identify safety solutions based on inspections and investigations.
- Assist in eliminating incidents and preventing their recurrence.
Employee Development:
- Willing to train to be an effective EHS leader as well as obtain EHS related certifications.
- Coach and develop all employees to be effective HS&E leaders.
Compliance and Improvement:
- Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies by conducting routine safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments throughout the facility.
- Continuously analyze HS&E programs, conditions, and behaviors.
- Recommend changes to enhance site safety performance.
- Participate in the development and delivery of safety training programs (e.g., PPE, hazard communication, emergency response)
- Help maintain safety records, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, including drills and equipment checks.
- Help manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory systems.
- Participate in job safety analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to promote safe work practices.
- Stay current with applicable safety regulations and company policies.
- Monitor employee compliance with safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Field Work and Investigations:
- Sample wastewater and stormwater pits during rain events.
- Support incident investigations by gathering data, interviewing personnel, and documenting findings
- Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions from audits and incident investigations.
- Inventorying, stocking, organizing, and containing all cabinets and closets related to safety items.
Cultural Engagement:
- Foster a safety-conscious culture where everyone is accountable.
- Encourage safe work practices among co-workers.
Collaboration and Leadership:
- Collaborate with other functions (Engineering, HR, Quality, Operations) to achieve goals.
- Demonstrate the Company's Operating Principles.
Training and Emergency Response:
- Conduct forklift training and evaluations.
- Be available for varying shifts, including weekends.
- Respond to medical emergencies, fires, and spills.
Offsite Training:
- Travel for safety or environmental training (less than 10%).
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field. (preferred)
- 0–2 years of experience in a safety-related role, internship, or industrial environment (preferred)
- Demonstrated 1-year minimum experience in a chemical manufacturing role with no safety incidents incurred.
- Soft computer skills needed for creating reports and maintaining records ie., Microsoft office, Packing Quality, Pulse
- Technical expertise in manufacturing safety and safety processes.
- Flexibility to support all shift and/or weekend activities.
- Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid preferred.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Hazardous Waste/RCRA training preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish). Required.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to be on feet 70% of the shift.
- Able to climb steps, ladders, etc. when required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to be medically cleared for respirator use.
- Ability to work in an industrial chemical plant environment, including exposure to noise, heat, cold, and chemicals (with proper PPE)
