What are the responsibilities and job description for the CPS Summer Skill Boost Program Tutor position at Cambridge Public Schools?
Description of Service Opportunity:
The CPS Summer Skills Boost program is a four week focused summer program that provides high-impact tutoring for current 6-7 grade students with demonstrated academic needs in math and literacy.
The program will operate from 8:30-11:00am on Mondays through Thursdays at The Putnam Avenue School from July 6 to July 30. Students will be cohorted by home school (CSUS, DVUS, RAUC, PAUS) and matched with school-based educators. Students will have a choice of accessing tutoring in-person or via Google Meet. The student teacher ratio will be 1:5.
Tutor responsibilities include:
-Recruiting & signing up students after they have been identified by school based literacy/math coaches and teachers
-Reviewing student data, planning and facilitating small tutoring sessions in literacy or math for up to 5 students (twice per day), monitoring academic progress
-Building relationships with students during tutoring sessions
-Sharing students progress weekly with families and caregivers
-Attending professional learning sessions as applicable
Dates:
May 1–June 30, 2026
20 hours of orientation, family/caregiver recruitment outreach, program planning, and curriculum training (not to exceed 20 hours)
Specific dates communicated with job offer
July 6–July 30, 2026 (CPS Summer Skills Boost program)
Time:
8:00 a.m.—12:30 p.m. (teacher work day, July) (not to exceed 72hrs )
8:30 a.m.—10:30 a.m. (student day)

Minimum Requirements:
CPS Skill Boost teachers must have the ability to teach students with a range of learning needs in multi-age classrooms. MA DESE licensure in English 5-8, Mathematics 5-8, and/or Moderate Disabilities preK-8 preferred. Priority will be given to regularly appointed teachers from Cambridge Public School District.
