Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) – Day Shift
Location: Bel Air, MD
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: 5x8 Days (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Start Date: January 26, 2026
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to join the Surgical Services team. This is a 13-week travel assignment with day shift scheduling. No call required; weekend coverage may occur as needed. Certification is required, and 5 years of experience is preferred—however, first-time travelers are welcome.
Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and assembly of surgical instruments and trays
- Follow aseptic technique and established protocols for wrapping, labeling, and sterilizing equipment
- Process loaner trays, consignment trays, and specialty surgical instruments
- Reprocess flexible endoscopes, including colonoscopes and EGD scopes
- Operate AERs, ultrasonic cleaners, washers/sterilizers, and other SPD equipment
- Conduct biological and chemical indicator monitoring, IUSS, steam sterilization testing, and Steris monitoring
- Maintain accurate equipment documentation and manage instrument sets according to preference cards
- Support multiple specialties, including Ortho/Total Joints, ENT, General, Neuro, Endoscopy, Plastics, and more
- Work in a 3-room surgical facility with 6–22 cases per day depending on specialty mix
- Float as required within the hospital
Requirements
- Certification required (must be active at time of submission)
- Minimum 5 years Sterile Processing experience preferred
- Comfort with floating; no schedule restrictions permitted
- Must live 50 miles from facility (no locals)
- MD or Compact license required at submission
- Ability to meet compliance deadlines and complete required labs within 72 hours of signing
- BLS (AHA only); CPI certification may be required depending on unit
- Two professional references (one supervisor/manager and one charge RN acceptable)
Skills & Experience
Experience in:
- Aseptic technique, tray organization, wrapping procedures
- Loaner tray processing
- High-Level Disinfection (HLD)
- Manual cleaning, chemical agents, and disinfectants
- Endoscope and probe reprocessing
- Sterilization monitoring (biological/chemical indicators, IUSS)
- Specialty equipment: Bariatrics, Neuro, Ortho, ENT, Implants, Laparoscopic, and more
- SPM (Sterile Processing Microsystem)
- V-Pro low-temperature sterilization (preferred)
Schedule & Unit Details
- Shift: Days, 5x8 hours (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 (Days)
- Daily Case Load: 6–22 cases
