Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Travel Registered Nurse specializing in Emergency Room care to join our dynamic healthcare team. This position offers the opportunity to work in diverse hospital settings, including Level I and Level II Trauma Centers, with a focus on providing exceptional acute care to patients experiencing critical health emergencies. The ideal candidate will possess extensive ER experience, proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner, and a strong background in trauma medicine, infectious disease care, and emergency medicine protocols. This role requires travel flexibility, excellent patient assessment skills, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
Duties
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients presenting with acute injuries or illnesses, including airway management, IV infusion, medication administration, and suturing.
- Perform rapid patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physiological evaluations to determine priority of care.
- Utilize advanced clinical skills such as trauma medicine, cardiac catheterization support, dialysis management, and ventilator operation during critical situations.
- Document patient information accurately using EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth and eClinicalWorks, ensuring compliance with medical documentation standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized discharge planning and post-acute care strategies.
- Manage infection control procedures, aseptic techniques, and sterile processing protocols during procedures such as spinal taps or ostomy care.
- Assist in diagnostic evaluations including laboratory testing, sonography, medical imaging, and specimen collection/processing.
- Educate patients and families on health coaching topics such as pain management, nutrition, medication administration, and post-discharge instructions.
- Maintain proficiency in specialized areas such as pediatric emergency care (including neonatal ventilator management), geriatrics (including dementia and Alzheimer's care), behavioral health crises, and working with people with disabilities.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current registration in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 2 years of ER experience in a hospital setting; experience in Level I or Level II Trauma Centers preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is advantageous.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in critical care procedures including airway management, IV insertion/infusion, suturing, tube feeding management, and infection control practices.
- Ability to perform physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations accurately under pressure.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (neonatal/infant care), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), behavioral health patients, and individuals with developmental disabilities or complex chronic conditions such as long-term care or hospice needs.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, CPT coding for procedures performed, and HIPAA regulations.
- Willingness to travel extensively across various healthcare facilities; flexibility to adapt to different hospital protocols is essential.
