Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) – Day/Evening/Night Shifts Available
Locations: Laurel, Bowie, Largo and Easton MD
Start Date: January 12, 2026
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shifts: Day Evening Night (5x8s, Monday–Friday)
Guaranteed Hours: 40
Contract Duration: 13 weeks with possible extension
Job Summary
We are hiring experienced Medical Lab Scientists (MLS) for multiple UMMS laboratory sites in Laurel, Bowie, and Largo, Maryland. This role supports day, evening, and night shift openings. Candidates must have strong hands-on clinical lab experience and be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced hospital environment. This is a 13-week contract assignment with potential for extension.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of laboratory testing in Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Serology, and Urinalysis.
- Prepare, analyze, and process specimens with accuracy and adherence to quality standards.
- Operate and troubleshoot lab instrumentation including Roche Cobas, Sysmex, CellaVision, ACL TOP, and more.
- Conduct quality control, calibration, and maintenance procedures.
- Perform blood bank duties such as ABO/Rh, antibody screening, crossmatching, transfusion reaction workups, and antigen typing.
- Accession, label, transport, and report specimens accurately.
- Maintain safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
- Work independently and collaborate with interdisciplinary staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Required: ASCP certification, BLS
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical lab experience (strong first-time travelers considered)
- Previous lead/charge experience preferred
- Epic charting experience preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical expertise across multiple lab departments
- Ability to perform manual and automated testing
- Proficiency with instrument operation, troubleshooting, and QC
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and independent problem-solving
Schedule Details

- Occasional flexibility needed depending on department needs
- Weekends: Not required
- On-Call: Not required
- Floating: May be required within laboratory departments or between nearby UMMS sites
