Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) – Day Shift | 13-Week Contract
Location: Bel Air, MD
Schedule: Day Shift | 5×8-Hour (07:00–15:30)
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to support a busy Surgical Services department within an Ambulatory Surgery Center environment. This role is ideal for an experienced technician who is confident in all phases of decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and endoscope reprocessing. You will play a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient surgical operations by delivering consistent, high-quality instrument processing.
A strong background in specialty sets, sterilization testing, and handling complex surgical instrumentation is essential. First-time travelers are welcome if they meet experience requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Decontamination & Disinfection
- Perform manual cleaning and use automated washers/sterilizers
- Apply appropriate disinfectants and chemical agents
- Operate AER systems and ultrasonic cleaners
- Carry out high-level disinfection (HLD) procedures
Instrument Assembly & Processing
- Assemble and organize instrument trays according to preference cards
- Process loaner trays and consignment equipment
- Ensure accurate labeling, wrapping, and packaging of sets
- Manage sets for General, Ortho, Neuro, ENT, Plastics, Laparoscopic, Bariatric, and other surgical specialties
Sterilization Duties
- Operate steam sterilizers, IUSS, and low-temperature sterilization (V-Pro)
- Monitor and document biological & chemical indicator testing
- Conduct sterilization testing/monitoring following established protocols
- Understand Steris testing and documentation requirements
Endoscope Reprocessing
- Reprocess colonoscopes, EGD scopes, and flexible scopes
- Perform proper scope cleaning, leak testing, HLD, and storage procedures
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate equipment documentation
- Follow aseptic technique throughout all processes
- Utilize sterile processing systems such as SPM (if applicable)
- Uphold safety and quality standards at all times
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Sterile Processing experience required
- National certification (CRCST or CBSPD) required
- Experience within an Ambulatory Surgery Center or multi-specialty surgical environment strongly preferred
- Proficiency with specialty instrument sets and high-volume reprocessing
- Able to work day shifts with flexibility for occasional weekend needs
- First-time travelers accepted
