Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to support a busy hospital clinical laboratory. This role requires strong analytical ability, broad hands-on experience across multiple laboratory disciplines, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. If you enjoy complex testing, varied instrumentation, and a fast-paced environment, this assignment is ideal for you.
This position features alternating day and evening shifts, exposure to advanced diagnostic equipment, and the opportunity to work across Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, Blood Bank, and Urinalysis.
Schedule
- 5×8-Hour Shifts, Monday–Friday
- Day Shift: 07:30 – 16:00
- Evening Shift: 15:30 – 00:00
- Rotating between both shifts required
- Holidays required as scheduled
- No weekends, no on-call
Key ResponsibilitiesChemistry
- Perform immunoassays, hormone/thyroid testing, cardiac enzymes, osmolality, therapeutic drug monitoring, 24-hour urine studies, and more
- Perform review and interpretation of QC
- Prepare, process, and analyze specimens
Blood Bank
- Perform ABO/Rh typing, antibody screens, direct and indirect Coombs tests, antigen typing, crossmatches (IS/IgG/electronic), and transfusion reaction workups
- Support plasmapheresis and plateletpheresis processes
Microbiology
- Perform aerobic/anaerobic cultures, fungal cultures, AFB, wet preps, gram stains, rapid tests, molecular extractions, and sensitivity testing
- Plate setup and organism identification
Hematology / Coagulation
- Manual diffs, reticulocyte counts, platelet counts, sedimentation rates, sickle cell prep, bleeding time, CBCs, factor assays, TEGs
Equipment Operation
Hands-on experience with instruments such as:
- Sysmex, Roche Cobas, Beckman, Hitachi
- CellaVision, Iris Cell, Siemens Dimensions
- ACL TOP, WAM, colorimeters, flame photometers
General Duties
- Accurate labeling, specimen handling, transport, and storage
- Maintain quality assurance, documentation, and proper disposal procedures
- Follow transmission-based precautions
- Perform venipuncture as needed
- Work independently and maintain strong clinical judgement
Required Qualifications
- ASCP Certification required
- Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience
- Strong hands-on experience with major analyzers and standard clinical laboratory workflows
- Experience in a Community Hospital setting required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- COVID vaccine not required

- ASCP-MLS
- BLS
- Previous charge or lead experience
- Strong competency across all lab disciplines
Additional Details
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Floating within lab departments may be required
- Patient Population: Neonates to geriatrics
- RTO: None pre-approved
