POSITION SUMMARY
Performs building cleaning and related facilities support work in schools and administrative buildings. This position requires manual work relating to efficient performance of general cleaning and routine maintenance tasks. The position requires repetitive and sustained physical effort and involves some heavy work in moving or lifting furniture and equipment. The work is usually inspected in detail upon completion. Incumbent receives general direction and evaluation from principal, supervisor of operations or designee.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education development (GED) program certificate or Maryland high school certificate of attendance preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

At the time of application, the candidate must have:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment
- Must know the proper use of mops, brooms, floor machines, and related equipment.
- Must possess good human relations and communications skills.
- Ability to read and write.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:
- Cleans and maintains all areas of assigned responsibility.
- Grounds – grass cutting, weed eater, trash removal, snow removal, etc.
- Check and clean weight room, gymnasium, athletic locker rooms, and bleachers.
- Check and clean field house and bathrooms.
- Pick up trash around gymnasium and softball/baseball fields.
- Maintain and use the following equipment: tractor, lawn mower, weed eater, snow blower, sidewinder, walk behind scrubber.
- Scrubs and disinfects toilet rooms daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Complies with local and state laws in the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Washes windows when directed to do so.
- Assists in snow and ice removal.
- Keeps grounds clear of people not on official school business.
- Assists visitors by giving directions and needed explanations.
- Assists law enforcement officers as directed by the principal.
- Attends safety, maintenance, and custodial meetings as requested by the building services manager, principal, and supervisor of Operations.
- Patrols school building to prevent fires, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
- Prunes trees and trims when necessary.
- Performs emergency repair of equipment when necessary.
- Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
- Comes to work regularly and promptly.
- Works under stress and meets deadlines.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS/DEMANDS:
- Requires moderate physical effort, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Works with chemical cleaning agents
UNUSUAL DEMANDS:
- Works from heights for light bulb replacement and cleaning
- May be subject to a flexible work schedule
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policy on evaluation established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
