Job Description And Duties

Under the general direction of the Caltrans Maintenance Manager II (East Region Manager), the Maintenance Manager I (MM I) coordinates, plans, and provides direction on unsheltered encampments within the State right-of-way and in consistent with the Department's policies to ensure the safe operation and performance of the State Highway System while respecting the rights of the unsheltered individuals. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and managing Maintenance Activities Performance Plan (MAPP) goals for encampment activities, litter, and operations in accordance with Maintenance Program policies and procedures that are in alignment with the Department's Mission, Vision, and Goals. Serves as the point of contact for district maintenance inquiries related to encampments, litter, and participates on internal and external task force groups and committees related to unsheltered encampments and litter.

The MMI also directs field maintenance program activities for the Mountain and Electrical Areas. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and managing activities and operations in accordance with Maintenance Program policies and procedures and in alignment with the Department's Mission, Vision, and Goals. The incumbent develops and applies strategies to effectively maintain the highway and roadside infrastructure in the Mountain and Electrical Areas within budget and resource allocations to achieve performance goals and high service levels.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. A Class C driver's license is required.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.   • Describe your experience with written correspondence, presentations, teamwork, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and conflict resolution.
  • Describe your experience using software such as Microsoft Office Suite, the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS), Enterprise Datalink, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Google Maps, and other applications to create spreadsheets, reports, and exhibits.
  • Describe your experience in developing, analyzing, and recommending innovative strategies and practices to achieve effective results and high service scores.
  • Describe your experience leading teams, evaluating performance, supporting training and development, and recognizing staff achievements in a supervisory role?
