Job Summary
The Center for Technology and Management Education (CTME) at Caltech specializes in customizing unique learning experiences for technology-based organizations and their people. We work one-on-one with leadership to design and deliver practical programs and certificate courses for teams and individuals.
The Executive Director of the CTME directs and manages all aspects of the Center, including program development, business development, business and customer relationships, and operations. Provides management direction and oversight to Center staff. Reports to the Chair of the Division of Engineering and Applied Science.
This is an Organizational Critical position. In the event of an emergency on campus, an employee designated as organizational critical is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in division/department response and recovery efforts.
Essential Job Duties
$150,000 to $237,500 per year
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Essential Job Duties
- Develops overall strategies for the CTME; develops annual operating budgets; sells programs and generates revenue.
- Recruits and develops instructors from inside and outside of Caltech.
- Directs the development and marketing of professional and executive education programs designed specifically for technology-based organizations.
- Targets potential markets and individual clients; develops, adopts, and modifies unique marketing and sales approaches to fit each market and client.
- Develops new and ongoing profitable relationships with major corporate clients interested in purchasing professional and executive training programs.
- Works closely with each corporate client to understand their education needs as they relate to the client’s business issues; customizes and integrates our education programs to meet their needs; develops pricing and negotiates contracts with clients.
- Seeks strategic partnerships with training providers and professional organizations; negotiates agreements; monitors performance against agreements.
- Develops, markets, deploys, and monitors public training programs, as appropriate.
- Monitors and tracks revenues as they compare to budget projections.
- Oversees the delivery of each custom training program to the client.
- Oversees operations and staff of the Center.
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience plus 8 years related program design, development, and evaluation experience.
- Previous experience in program needs assessment, development, delivery, evaluation, and marketing/sales in educational settings.
- Previous industry experience, preferably in entrepreneurship, engineering, or management.
- Prior experience in developing, directing, or managing executive education programs.
- Ability to communicate and maintain ongoing revenue-producing relationships with executives in technology-based organizations.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines by effectively handling multiple projects and priorities.
- Entrepreneurial experience.
- Familiarity with Caltech processes and procedures.
