Electrical Foreman (Public Works - Prevailing Wage)

CALTEC Corp.
West Covina, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/31/2026
About The Work

CALTEC Corp. is the General Contractor on a public works upgrade project at a large public assembly facility. The electrical scope supports an audio/video and lighting modernization: tenant improvement of an existing control/equipment room with associated mechanical and electrical work, power and pathway for new A/V equipment mounted to the existing structure, full replacement of existing lighting fixtures across multiple control zones, generator backup power and automatic transfer switches, underground feeders, and power for new mechanical equipment.

This is a registered California public works project. All labor is subject to prevailing wage, certified payroll, and apprenticeship requirements.

What You'll Run

This is a working foreman position. You run the crew and you work with them.

  • Lead and lay out the daily work of an electrical crew on an active public works site — feeders, panels, branch circuitry, lighting circuits, underground raceway and generator feeders, AV and low-voltage rough-in coordination, and overhead work at height
  • Read and build from the approved plans and specifications; identify conflicts early and route them to the PM as RFIs before they become delays
  • Call inspections on time and pass them the first time — particularly underground and cover inspections, before work gets buried
  • Keep apprentices productively engaged and maintain compliant apprentice ratios
  • Run the three-week lookahead for your scope and keep the crew loaded against it
  • Coordinate daily with the AV, structural steel, and mechanical trades working the same areas
  • Own daily reports, timecards, and accurate labor coding by cost code — this feeds both certified payroll and the incentive plan below
  • Enforce site safety: daily tailgate meetings, fall protection at height, LOTO and energized-work procedures, and jobsite-specific requirements
  • Take and document your own meal and rest periods, and make sure your crew does the same
  • Manage material staging, tool and equipment accountability, and waste handling
  • Walk and close punchlist; support as-built markups, O&M turnover, and inspection sign-offs
  • Interface with the Owner's inspector and Construction Manager professionally and in coordination with the Electrical Superintendent and PM

Required

WHAT YOU NEED

  • California Electrician Certification (State of California ET/General Electrician certification) — current
  • Minimum 5 years as a journeyman electrician, with at least 2 years running crews as a foreman
  • Demonstrated experience on prevailing wage / public works projects and familiarity with certified payroll obligations
  • Experience running apprentices productively and maintaining compliant apprentice ratios on public works projects
  • Ability to read and build from electrical plans, single-lines, and specifications without hand-holding
  • OSHA 30 (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and any Owner-required background check
  • Comfortable working at height and in an occupied/active facility environment

Preferred

  • Prior work on arena, stadium, theater, convention center, or other large-assembly venues
  • Familiarity with Title 24 Part 6 lighting controls acceptance testing and NRCA-LTI documentation; CALCTP-AT or equivalent Acceptance Test Technician certification through a CEC-approved ATTCP
  • Experience coordinating with AV and low-voltage integrators on shared pathways and device locations
  • Familiarity with Procore
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Compensation

CALTEC pays $3.00 per hour above the applicable California prevailing wage rate for the Inside Wireman classification, per the DIR General Prevailing Wage Determination in effect for Los Angeles County for this project. Full employer payments — health and welfare, pension, vacation/holiday, and training — are paid on top of that. Overtime, shift differential, and Saturday/Sunday/holiday premiums are paid on your full rate per California law. Certified payroll is filed weekly.

CALTEC does not offset prevailing wage obligations with incentive pay. The incentive plan below is paid in addition to all wages and fringe benefits owed.

PERFORMANCE INCENTIVE PLAN — UP TO $19,500

We pay for results, and we pay in three separate buckets so that one bad break in one area doesn't wipe out what you earned in the others. Full terms are provided in a written incentive agreement at hire.

Budget performance — up to $10,000

Schedule performance — up to $5,000

Fixed payments at defined milestones. Each is earned when the work is complete and the corresponding inspection has passed:

  • Underground complete, trench/cover inspection passed, backfilled — $1,000
  • Rough-in complete and cover inspection passed by milestone date — $1,000
  • Lighting complete, controls functional, accepted — $1,000
  • Substantial completion of the electrical scope on or before the contract date — $1,000
  • Each full week of early substantial completion — $500 per week, up to $1,000

  • Punchlist closed within 15 working days of the walk, with as-builts, panel schedules, O&M, and Title 24 acceptance documentation accepted — $1,000

Deductions. Re-inspection fees charged by the AHJ or the Owner's inspector are deducted dollar for dollar. Any failed inspection requiring re-excavation of backfilled trench or demolition of covered work deducts $1,000.

Payment terms. Budget and schedule amounts are calculated at substantial completion and paid on the next regular payroll following Owner acceptance. Quality and inspection amounts are paid at project closeout. Incentive payments are earned, non-discretionary compensation, reported as wages, and factored into overtime as required by California law. Total incentive compensation is capped at $19,500. You must be employed and in good standing at the time of payment.

Benefits

Employer payments for health and welfare, pension, vacation/holiday, and training are made per the applicable prevailing wage determination.
