What can you expect?

As the UXO Technician III, you will work on-site in Alaska and perform reconnaissance and classification of UXO. You will identify U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs/bomb fuzes, projectiles/projectile fuzes, grenades/grenade fuzes, and rockets/rocket fuzes. Also, you will identify land mines and associated components, pyrotechnic items, military explosives, and demolition 1930 materials. You will perform data entry in hand-held GPS units and supervise the location of subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers or all-metals detectors.

How will you do it?

  • Supervises the:
    • Excavation and recovery of subsurface UXO.
    • Construction of UXO-related protective works.
    • Location of surface UXO by visual means.
    • Transporting and storing UXO assuring compliance with federal, State, and local laws.
    • Preparation of an on-site safe holding area for UXO.
  • Prepares UXO-related administrative reports and standard operating procedures.
  • Conducts daily team safety briefing.
  • Supervises segregation of UXO-related scrap from non-UXO-related scrap, safe-handling procedures, team preventive medicine, and field sanitation procedures.
  • Performs risk hazard analysis
  • Determines precise location in field environment using a variety of techniques such as use of global positioning equipment, or basic land navigation techniques using topographical map and compass.
  • Prepares an on-site holding area to temporarily stow munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) that has an acceptable risk of movement.
  • Operates modes of transportation for transporting UXO, for which the risk of movement has been determined acceptable, when appropriate.
  • Performs limited technical supervision of Unexploded Ordnance Sweep Personnel (UXOSP)
  • Escorts personnel who are not directly involved in UXO-related operations (e.g., personnel performing environmental monitoring), but have activities to perform within exclusion areas.
  • Inspects Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) for the presence of explosives safety hazards
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has occasional supervisory responsibilities overseeing UXO Tech I’s and II’s in the field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Reliable and able to travel to various job sites as required
  • Ability to work in an Alaska Native Corporation multi-business environment.


Who is Brice Engineering looking for?

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a recognized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)/UXO institution
  • Have a minimum of 8 years prior military EOD experience with at least 1year prior MEC-related experience or minimum 8 years MEC-related experience as defined by DDESB TP-18 in munitions response actions or range clearance activities, as appropriate for the contracted operation
  • 40-hr or 8-hour Refresher - OSHA HAZWOPER training certificate
  • Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must pass a Fit for Duty exam by receiving a medically “qualified” fit for duty result letter indicating the employee is medically “qualified” to conduct work activities at the jobsite.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Brice Engineering has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes, and occasional overtime for immediate field support or bid processing may be necessary.
