Job Overview
We are seeking a strategic and operationally minded Director of Finance to lead our financial department. In the waste management industry, margins are won and lost in the details of route density, fleet maintenance, and regulatory navigating. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls, while acting as a key partner to operations to drive profitability and sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial Planning: Lead the annual budgeting process and long-range financial planning, with a specific focus on municipal contract renewals and disposal site life-cycle costs.
- Operational Analysis
- CAPEX Management: Oversee the financing and depreciation of heavy equipment, CNG/Electric fleet transitions, and facility infrastructure projects.
- Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to California’s evolving environmental regulations (e.g., SB 1383) and their impact on financial reporting and rate-setting.
- Contract Management: Partner with the executive team on franchise agreement negotiations and municipal bid modeling.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and develop a finance team, fostering a culture of accuracy, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Future Financial Planning: Helps the company grow and expand with an eye on potential IPO
- Oversee all entities: Will focus on the many different business entities domestically and internationally
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 10 years of progressive financial leadership, ideally within waste management/environmental field, logistics, construction, or a related heavy-asset industry.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Economics. CPA or MBA highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle) and route-management software integration.
- Analytical Rigor: Proven ability to translate complex operational data into actionable financial insights.
- Regional Knowledge: Familiarity with the San Francisco Bay Area’s unique labor market and regulatory environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $150,000 – $175,000 (commensurate with experience).
- Bonus: Annual performance-based bonus.
