California State PTA is part of the nation’s largest volunteer-led child-advocacy association, focused on improving the education, health, and well-being of all children and families. Team members help advance statewide initiatives, support local PTAs, and strengthen family and community involvement in education.

 

Role Description: The Development and Programs Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Sacramento, CA, with some work-from-home flexibility and some travel across the state. This position oversees program and development initiatives, including program management, relationship building, volunteer management, grant reporting, and partnerships that support California State PTA’s mission. 

 

The role manages our School Smarts program including marketing and outreach, presentations and trainings, planning and implementation, coordinates statewide initiatives and events, and ensures alignment of programs with organizational priorities and advocacy goals.


The Development and Programs Manager collaborates with staff, volunteers, and community partners, tracks program outcomes, prepares reports, and supports communications related to development and program activities. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading project management, promotions and pipeline building, stewardship of partners, budget monitoring for programs, and continuous improvement of processes to enhance impact and sustainability.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with development practices, including relationship and pipeline building, partner acquisition and retention, volunteer management, managing grants, and vendors.
  • Strong program and project management skills, with experience planning, marketing, outreach, presenting, training, implementing, and evaluating for sustainability and growth of community or education-focused programs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse shareholders, including volunteers, educators, administrators, families, and community organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare persuasive proposals and presentations and impactful trainings, reports, and program materials.
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and online collaboration tools; familiarity with donor or CRM systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of, or interest in public education, child advocacy, and family engagement; prior nonprofit or association experience is beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Education, Communications, or related discipline,) or equivalent combination of training and experience.
