Role Description: The Communications and Marketing Assistant is a full-time, hybrid role based in Sacramento, CA, with some work-from-home flexibility. This position supports the creation, editing, and distribution of communications that engage PTA members, families, educators, and partners. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting and formatting press releases, newsletters, publications, website content, and social media posts; assisting with strategic communications plans and campaigns; and supporting internal communications to staff and volunteers.
The Communications and Marketing Assistant helps maintain brand consistency, coordinates content calendars, and tracks basic metrics for communications activities. The role also involves collaborating with team members on events, advocacy initiatives, outreach projects, and responding to routine communication inquiries.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and writing skills, including the ability to craft clear, concise, audience-appropriate messages.
- Experience drafting and formatting materials like blogs, press releases, and other media-facing materials.
- Experience in creating visual social media content such as graphics and short-form videos
- Background or interest in strategic communications and campaign support, including planning and messaging alignment.
- Skills in drafting internal communications, such as staff and volunteer updates, newsletters, and organizational announcements.
- Proficiency with common office and communication tools (e.g., email marketing platforms, word processing, presentation software) such as Office 365, Google Suite, and Adobe. Experience with Asana, Canva, Mailchimp, and/or WordPress is a plus.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including volunteers and community partners.
- Relevant coursework or experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field preferred.
