Job Description and Duties
Under general supervision, checks motor carrier for compliance with the California Highway Patrol administrative regulations relating to safety, maintenance and operational practices; perform in-depth vehicle inspections for annual certifications, makes recommendations regarding the granting of PUC operating authority; inspects carrier and chipper facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations pertaining to documentation of hazardous materials and wastes; prepares comprehensive written reports of inspections conducted; makes detailed investigations of vehicles involved in accidents to determine if cause was mechanical; assists in preparation of complaints, reports and exhibits; testifies as a witness in court. This is for a position in San Francisco County.
Working Conditions
Must be willing to work in inclement weather (i.e. heat, rain, etc.).

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Motor Carrier Specialist I classification to be eligible to take the examination.
