Job Description And Duties

The Research and Public Response Unit (R&PR) is responsible for assisting the public by researching and responding to incoming inquiries via telephone, correspondence and/or e-mail pertaining to ownership of unclaimed property.

Under general supervision of the Staff Services Manager I of the R&PR Unit of the Support Services Bureau, the Program Technician II (PTII) position is at the journey level and performs the more difficult program specialist work. The PTII answers and/or researches the more difficult program inquiries from claimants filing claims against unclaimed property accounts by verifying pertinent information and applying applicable laws and rules governing the program. The PTII serves as an expert to the Program Technicians in the unit and is familiar with procedures for evaluating claims. The incumbent’s work is occasionally reviewed by the Unit Manager.

Duties Performed:

(Candidates must perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodations.)

  • Identify, research and evaluate the more complex incoming unclaimed property inquiries received via email and/or through postal mail from potential claimants, businesses or holders in accordance with laws, rules and regulations, utilizing UPD databases. Provide more sensitive and detailed information in a timely manner, verbally and in writing, to claimants.
  • Perform research related to claimant inquiries specific to aggregate and safe deposit box properties and communicate findings to claimants and R&PR management. Provide guidance to claimants and initiate claims for these property types.
  • Respond to inquiries with basic knowledge of unclaimed property laws, policies and claim procedures, either via telephone, e-mail or written correspondence. Refer claims or calls that are determined to be more complex to the appropriate staff for further evaluation and resolution, according to the UPD’s procedures. Provide guidance to the public on the electronic submission process and general website navigation.
  • Provide support to the Support Services Bureau by cross-training and providing back-up t o address the fluctuating needs of the Bureau.
