California Sheet Metal Works Inc. is hiring a Project Engineer to join our field operations team in San Diego, CA.

What You’ll Do
As a Project Engineer, you will help keep projects organized, coordinated, and moving forward. You will work closely with project managers, field teams, general contractors, clients, vendors, and our internal shop team to support successful project execution from documentation through installation.
Key Responsibilities
· Interpret and manage subcontract scope and project requirements.
· Maintain and organize contract documents and web-based project files.
· Coordinate shop drawings, product data, samples, and approval processes.
· Review shop drawings for compliance with project specifications.
· Manage RFIs and assist with change order estimates and reviews.
· Support the timely release and delivery of materials for fabrication.
· Communicate regularly with the shop regarding fabrication schedules.
· Support field teams with quality control and installation reviews.
· Maintain clear communication with clients, general contractors, internal teams, and vendors.
· Monitor schedule changes and report potential project impacts.

· Project documents are accurate, organized, and easy to access.
· RFIs, submittals, and approvals are handled in a timely and professional manner.
· Materials are released on schedule to support fabrication and installation.
· Field teams have the information they need to perform quality work.

Qualifications
· 3–5 years of relevant experience in contracting, project engineering, project management, construction coordination, field operations, or a related role preferred.
· Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, and performance management.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Prior on-site construction experience preferred.
· Experience with construction documents, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and fabrication coordination is a plus.
· Experience with construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, or similar tools is a plus.

· Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 annually, based on experience and certifications.
