Job Summary

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Occupational Therapist provides students at the California School for the Blind (CSB) with assessment and services in the areas of fine motor skills and coordination; motor planning; activities of daily living; basic tool use in an educational setting (eating utensils, writing utensils, keyboard, etc.); sensory processing; and sensory integration. The occupational therapist collaborates with teachers, other service providers, and parents to foster motor skill and sensory processing growth for all CSB students. The occupational therapist is responsible to maintain the sensory-motor room and equipment in good working order.

Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (when not applying electronically), or the Electronic State Employment Application through your Applicant Account at www.CalCareers.ca.gov. All Experience and Education relating to the Minimum Qualifications listed on the Classification Specification should be included to demonstrate how you meet the Minimum Qualifications for the position. Working Conditions Will work in a temperature-controlled environment with LED lighting. May predominantly sit at desk or use sit/stand desk during normal working hours to perform daily duties, and may be required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. This position may be kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching overhead/above shoulder level, sitting. Daily contact with blind or low vision children is required. May be required to escort student during fire drills or emergencies. This position is also on an open school campus and may be around service animals. Walking outdoors, up to 0.5 miles per day may be required to escort students from place to place on campus. The position requires use of a desktop and/or laptop computer and other standard office equipment. Occasional travel to attend meetings and conferences may be required.

(Applicants who have completed the academic training required for registration will be admitted to the civil service examination, but they must also have completed the required clinical training before they will be considered eligible for appointment.) This position also requires the following minimum requirements: A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and, A current and valid license issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy License. This position requires the following pre-employment clearance: Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment and or Test Department of Justice (DOJ) Fingerprint Clearance. Upon formal conditional offer of employment and acceptance, you will be given more information regarding the required pre-employment clearance documentation. Benefit information can be found on the CalHR website www.calhr.ca.gov and the CalPERS www.calpers.ca.gov website. ** This position has a Pay Differential 482 - Recruitment and Retention. Employees will recieve 10% of the base salary. The pay differential is not included in the salary as listed below. ** ** Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. ** The California School for the Blind (CSB) is located in Fremont, CA and offers free parking. CSB is also two blocks from BART and the AC Transit bus stop is in front of campus.
