Schedule & Compensation
- Instructional Days: Tuesday–Friday (3–4 days per week)
- Daily Hours: 3–4 hours of direct, in-person instruction
- Core Instructional Window: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM (flexible as program evolves)
- Additional Prep Time: 4 hours weekly
- Guaranteed Minimum: 16 hours per week
- Compensation: $70–$80 per hour (instruction prep time), commensurate with experience and qualifications
Position Overview
California Private Teachers is seeking a dedicated and relationship-centered Private Teacher to support a 12-year-old 7th grade student in a personalized, one-on-one homeschool setting. Instruction will take place in a quiet, fully built-out private classroom space in Encino, CA.
The family is transitioning from private school to in-person homeschooling to provide more individualized academic support, restore engagement, and build confidence. They are seeking a strong long-term teacher match to complete the remainder of 7th grade and continue through the full 8th grade year
The goal is not simply academic completion- it is to rebuild momentum, strengthen executive functioning, and prepare the student for a confident transition into local high school for 9th grade.
The ideal candidate is structured yet warm, skilled in re-engaging capable but disengaged learners, and committed to fostering both academic growth and emotional well-being.

Role & Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum Development
- Design and implement an individualized homeschool plan aligned with middle school standards
- Deliver instruction in ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and enrichment
- Provide targeted math intervention using engaging, hands-on, and interactive strategies
- Integrate project-based and interest-driven learning where appropriate
- Support executive functioning, organization, and academic stamina
Engagement & Social-Emotional Support
- Build a strong, trusting teacher-student relationship
- Create a calm, structured, and predictable learning environment
- Re-engage a capable learner experiencing burnout and decreased motivation
- Balance challenge with encouragement and patience
- Foster independence, resilience, and growth mindset
Assessment & Communication
- Monitor progress and adjust instruction responsively
- Provide consistent communication and collaboration with parents and California Private Teachers
- Establish transition-focused goals in preparation for high school
Contract Details
- Duration: Remainder of 7th grade full 8th grade year
- Employment Term: 1 year commitment preferred
- Instructional Days: Tuesday–Friday, in person (Encino, CA)
- Summer Program: Scaled-back, flexible schedule with intentional breaks to maintain balance and engagement

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Master’s preferred)
