What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marketing Communications Manager position at California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP)?
POSITION SUMMARY
CMCP is seeking a marketing and communications professional with a passion for inclusion and
opportunity in the legal profession to develop, implement and manage all aspects of CMCP’s
communications for membership, events, and programs. This role will work closely with the Executive
Director to support the vision and mission of the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications & Marketing:
• Develop and implement marketing communications strategies that are in-line with the high-level goals and objectives of the organization, and work with CMCP’s Executive Director to promote engagement and participation in CMCP membership, programs and events, and annual business conference
• Conceptualize and manage the creative design of marketing materials and ensure it is consistent with the CMCP brand and image
• Review and adapt communications and marketing strategies based on digital analytics, such as email open and click rates, website traffic, and social media engagement
• Leverage the services of outside consultants and vendors to reduce staff workload, improve efficiency, and increase output for several of the above activities
• Write and release press releases
• Proof all external communications
Weekly eBulletin:
• Prepare, design, and send weekly eBulletins via Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (MCAE, formerly Pardot)
• Maintain and manage opt out lists and assure industry marketing emailing standards.
• Generate graphics and gather content for the weekly CMCP eBulletin to promote CMCP events & programs, member news, highlights, and promote member engagement with CMCP
Social Media:
• Create content for and oversee management of CMCP Social Media sites such as LinkedIn Page and Group, Facebook Page, and Instagram.
• Design and manage social media strategies that meet engagement goals (including likes, shares, comments, saves, and click-through rates) and regularly track, analyze, and optimize social media performance to meet or exceed targets while amplifying CMCP’s mission, programs, and community impact across digital platforms
Annual Report:
• Manage the design and production of the CMCP Annual Report
Membership Campaign:
• Create messaging, graphics, and membership campaign promotions to increase renewals, rejoins and new prospective members via conference website, social media, and weekly eBulletin
• Develop membership development materials to attract new members
Sponsorship Campaign:
• Create messaging, graphics, and membership campaign promotions to increase renewals, rejoins and new prospective sponsors via conference website, social media, and weekly eBulletin
• Develop sponsorship marketing materials for Annual Business Conference and Women and Men of CMCP Summits
• Operate as point person for sponsorship recognition, including all asset collection
Annual Business Conference & Women and Men of CMCP Summits:
• Create messaging and promote conference participation and sponsorships throughout the year via conference website, social media, and weekly eBulletin
• Work with and manage various vendors in developing the marketing materials for the promotion of the Women and Men of CMCP Summits and the Annual Business Conference, such as photographer, videographer, conference micro-website, on-site signage, print program, mobile app, and email marketing
• Oversee the content management of the Annual Business Conference website and the Women and Men of CMCP Summits website
• Develop and manage build and content for mobile app
• Design all signage and promotional print materials
• Oversee design and development of Annual Business Conference Program
• Monitor onsite photography/videography to ensure smooth operations during events.
• Prepare post-conference/summit report for the Board of Directors and post-
conference/summit summary for attendees, sponsors, and CMCP members
Information Technology Systems Management:
• Develop and manage content in various areas of the WordPress-hosted CMCP website, including primary content, job bank, event promotion, member news, announcements, and resources
• Stay abreast of technological changes in order to improve existing services and cost effectiveness.
• Collaborate with CMCP IT Support TEAM to:
Set up new IT systems and/or upgrade existing ones.
Troubleshoot technical malfunctions and service disruptions, resolve and/or delegate to service providers/vendors.
Maintain and/or oversee the maintenance of office equipment, proactively prevent or minimize system malfunctions.
Monitor security of network to minimize potential disruptions and loss of productivity.
SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical competency and the ability to learn new systems quickly. Proficiency in the following platforms is preferred:
• Salesforce CRM – data management, reporting, dashboards, campaign/workflow coordination
• MCAE (Marketing Cloud Account Engagement / Pardot) – email campaigns, automation, engagement tracking
• Microsoft Office Suite – OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; advanced document and spreadsheet skills
• PowerPoint – creation of polished presentations, visual formatting, and slide organization
• Adobe Creative Cloud – design, marketing, photography, video, web, and content creation
• Canva – basic design, formatting, and creation of event collateral and visual assets
• WordPress – CMS platform to build, manage, and update the CMCP website
• QuickBooks – invoice tracking, payment reconciliation, reporting review
• Jotform – form building, data routing, integrations, and export management
• Cvent (or equivalent event platforms) – event setup, registration builds, attendee tracking, and reporting
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or related area
• Proven ability to create and successfully execute a multi-strategy, multi-year marketing and communications plan
• Deep experience in all areas of marketing, including: website tracking and metrics; social media; PR and advertising; videography and photography; email marketing and communications; CRM database; SEO; mobile engagement platforms; E-commerce, including website optimization, and email acquisition strategies
• Skilled at managing within a compact and nimble organization, responsible for both high level strategy and logistical implementation
• A personal commitment to, and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues as well as demonstrated experience working across differences
• Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to work independently
• Ability to work effectively and in close cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders, including Board member, Ambassadors, coworkers, outside entities and individuals
• Agile, demonstrating a comfort level with ambiguity by acting/reacting with flexibility and approaches problems from different perspectives with a solution orientation
• Superior writing and editing skills, with a strong sense of narrative and story-telling
• A high level of professional integrity, diplomacy, and discretion when handling sensitive issues
• Ability to respond quickly to unexpected challenges and shifting priorities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working in or with nonprofit and/or membership associations/organizations
• Experience working in or with the business law industry (business law firms or corporate legal departments)
• Experience in marketing and promoting events such as business conferences or tradeshows
• Proficient in Salesforce MCAE
• Graphic Design
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The targeted annual salary for this role is $75,000-$80,000 with a generous benefits package.
Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

WORK SCHEDULE
The CMCP staff work remotely from home with regular weekly virtual team meetings and 1:1 check-in.
The work schedule generally is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A flexible work schedule or additional work hours may be necessary, to meet the requirements of this job position, which could encompass evening hours and weekend work. The work hours sometimes extending beyond an 8-hour day/40-hour work week, particularly in the weeks preceding the Women and Men of CMCP Summits in April, the weeks preceding the Annual Business Conference in September, and at the commencement of membership renewal cycles in October/November.
