The California Lottery is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise headquartered in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Our mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retailer compensation.
In fiscal year 2023-24, the California Lottery provided over $2 billion in supplemental funding for California public schools, bringing the total contributions to more than $46 billion since we began in 1985. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations throughout the state. Product offerings include an average of 52 fun and entertaining Scratchers games and several draw games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and SuperLotto Plus and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot.
Job Description and Duties:
Join the California State Lottery and make an impact! We are seeking a Supervising Program Technician II to work in prize payment operations within the Finance Division. In this role, you will supervise a dedicated team, responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of Lottery prize payments. Your leadership will help support our mission to provide supplemental funding for California’s public schools and colleges.

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and train staff in prize payment processing.
- Monitor workloads and adjust schedules to meet deadlines.
- Review, edit, and provide feedback on staff work.

This position requires a current Supervising Program Technician II exam. If you need to take the exam or if your score has expired, click here to gain list eligibility.
This position is headquartered at the Sacramento HQ. This position is not eligible for telework.
Working Conditions:
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Desirable Qualifications
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public and co-workers either in person or by phone
- Supervisor or team-building (leadperson) experience
- Experience in use of modern office methods, equipment and general procedures
- Experience working with computer applications, specifically, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Experience hiring, motivating, training and ensuring that staff has the tools that they need to do their jobs
- Experience in time management and monitoring workload and adjusting staffing schedules as needed
