Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Health Technician to join our team. The primary role of the Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is in providing direct and support services to female or male clients suffering from mental illness or a co-occurring disorder. Specifically, the two main functions of the BHT are 1) supervision of the clients and 2) ensuring their participation in treatment related services and facilitating psycho-educational activities of daily living and attending community support and recreational activities.
Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists in supervision of client activities and always have awareness of client’s whereabouts, including breaks and internal activities.
- Attends all mandatory training and in-house conferences/seminars.
- Attends weekly operations meeting to report on operations activities, help improve systems, receive training/supervision on pertinent topics.
- Engages clients in therapeutic activities as appropriate.
- Provides a brief overview of the housing program about program rules, procedures, and services; with each new client.
- Conducts urinalysis (UA) for new admissions and for weekly UA’s that are sent to the diagnostics laboratory.
- Completes all assigned cleaning tasks during each shift to ensure a clean, comfortable, and compliant healing environment.
- Completes all items on the BHT Weekly Task List and confirms completion with supervisor.
- Utilizes HIPAA compliant messaging platform to communicate activities in operations and collaborate with other departments. This includes reporting discrepancies in client whereabouts, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, compassionate support, and must include any attempts to resolve current issues.
- Monitors and documents client signs of medical distress and/or behavioral concerns on an ongoing basis.
- Collaborates with LVN’s to obtain client vital signs and ensure medication compliance.
- Reports to the supervisor of any discrepancies in the client's whereabouts.
- Provides appropriate support and structure for clients in dealing with their recovery; interacts continually with clients.
- Ensures client wake-up and bedtime, escorts residents on shopping trips, recreation, meetings, medical appointments, etc.
- Enforces program rules at all times. Follows the company guidelines for addressing client behavioral issues that breach program rules.
- Maintains order and ensures compliance with rules and regulations; ensures that clients conduct themselves in an orderly manner.
- Records accurate and up-to-date reports on every client and continually updates the bed list(s) to ensure that all admissions and discharges are recorded in a timely fashion.
- Responds appropriately to all medical and other emergencies.
- Conducts searches of all client bags when being admitted to the facility. Confiscates and secures any contraband found and notifies the appropriate supervisor on duty in their absence.
- Randomly inspects all rooms, common areas, hallways and bathrooms every thirty minutes and performs a thorough search for contraband, no less than weekly.
- When assigned to drive Company vehicles, BHT’s are responsible for safe operation and maintenance of vehicles. This includes updating the van log
- Distributes daily mail to clients and observes confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must have a required health screening.
- Must have current Tuberculin Screen or obtain upon 7 days of hire.
- Valid CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Must have criminal record clearance.
- Must be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
