The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is seeking ambitious and driven individuals to join us as Tax Auditors (TA). The TA position is an entry level professional position with career advancement opportunities and potential for personal development. As a Tax Auditor you will use your critical thinking skills and business acumen to manage audits effectively and efficiently. Your skills will be strengthened as you attend training classes, work with a mentor to develop audit plans, and perform audits. You will develop your communication skills by regularly meeting with taxpayers and their representatives to answer tax related inquiries, explain audit findings and reports. You will have the support of your supervisor, on the job trainers and team members and will learn all facets of the position!
HIRING PROCESS: After the Final Filing Date, applications will be reviewed. The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the interview process. Successful candidates may receive a conditional offer of employment contingent upon the successful completion of Background Check, Merit Review* and Nepotism Review.

Effective October 1, 2024, Tax Auditors may be eligible for Recruitment Hiring Above Minimum (HAM) salary rate of $5,367 per month (Range A only).
Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.

- Travel is required fifty percent (50%) of the time.
