T he Department of Medicine and Ancillary Services is currently accepting applications for two full time, permanent Laboratory Assistant positions.
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible to implement standard Infection Control practices per facility policies; responsible for a variety of tasks associated with the daily operation of the Clinical Laboratory, including billing, and ordering supplies. Performs a variety of routine standardized non-technical laboratory functions and performs a variety of elementary laboratory methods and procedures, following directions and working effectively and efficiently within a group situation. Must read and write English at a level required for successful job performance. With Phlebotomist Certificate, duties include performance of venipuncture collections on clients and staff in the clinical laboratory and on the residential units throughout the facility. Process and prepare laboratory specimens for reference lab. Responsible for keeping records of send-outs. Maintain work area/material in an orderly manner. Must deal with clients and employees in a professional, courteous manner, exercising tact and sensitivity. Candidates must have a CPT1 license.

Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness. Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital has a bed capacity to treat up to 1,362 patients on an attractive campus with treatment units located on 138 acres. Staff is dedicated and committed to delivering high quality, cost-effective, professional services and specialized programs in an environment that promotes continuous improvements in treatment for individuals with mental disabilities.
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.
