Job Description And Duties
The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. Housed within the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), the Department is dedicated to improving working conditions for California's 18million wage earners and advancing opportunities for profitable employment in California. The Department administers and enforces laws governing wages, hours worked, retaliation, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, medical care, and other benefits for injured workers
Under direction from the Senior Apprenticeship Consultant within the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS), the Apprenticeship Consultant is responsible for providing technical assistance, guidance and support to apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs while serving as a source of information to workers, employers, their representatives, and the general public regarding Apprenticeship, Pre-Apprenticeship and On-The-job training programs. Duties include, but not limited to the following: Develop and consult with Apprenticeship and "On-The-Job" training programs, provide guidance on compliance with state and federal apprenticeship laws and regulations, conduct program reviews, attend apprenticeship program meetings, public meetings, job fairs and outreach events.
The incumbent will attend and advise at meetings and outreach events; may work remotely at home; and will collaborate with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Occasional travel required that may include driving, flights and overnight stays. The position offers flexible Schedule: May require early start and/or late night meetings, infrequent overnight stays.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting that is an air conditioned, multiple floor building with elevator access, and contains cubicles with natural and artificial lighting. May be required to work from other locations throughout California as needed including working from home (in accordance with the State’s Telework policy) if provided with proper office equipment. Typical office tools utilized include computer, printer/copy/scan/fax machines, stapler, hole punch, filing. Position requires being in a stationary position for long periods of time and/or driving. Typical office/vehicle noise and/or vibration may occur while working. May encounter inclement weather.
Special Requirements
Submit with the Title center page, “Statement of Qualifications”. Must be typewritten using no smaller than Arial, 12-point font- single spaced, must limit to two pages answering these questions:
