The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) Office of External Affairs (OEA) is looking for an outreach specialist who has experience engaging diverse communities, as well as creating and improving educational materials. DIR's OEA is a multifunctional, active team that makes a positive impact in the working lives of Californians. This position is designated as bilingual (Spanish). The incumbent will be required to utilize bilingual skills at least ten percent (10%) or more of the time while performing their duties. Compensation will be received after the incumbent passes a bilingual Spanish exam.
The incumbent must handle sensitive and confidential materials and matters in a professional manner and establish cooperative working relationships with others. The incumbent has daily contact with other staff within the Office of External Affairs and also has contact frequently with staff in other DIR divisions, programs and units, and frequent contact with stakeholders.

The incumbent will be required to travel (25-30%) to public events, meetings and departmental events while managing between 10-35 pounds of audiovisual equipment. This position also requires responsiveness to the public, media and attendance of public meetings outside of normal business hours. The ability to use a computer, telephone and other office equipment such as copiers and scanners is necessary. The incumbent is expected to maintain a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of two days per week in the office or more, based on operational needs. The position requires work at a computer for extended periods of time and to safely move and transport office items.
