What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Support Special Corpsmember - Conservationist Pathway position at California Conservation Corps?
As a Program Support Special Corpsmember on the Conservationist Pathway, you will engage in CCC Program Activities in an office and associated settings. You will engage with civil service staff, other Corpsmembers, and members of the public who rely upon the CCC's program support services to successfully carry out, benefit from, or interact with the CCC program.
This position may work night shift, evening shift, weekends and holidays as needed.
This position at the CCC Fortuna Center aims to provide training and experience to help meet the minimum qualifications for administrative classifications such as Office Technician, Management Services Technician, and Conservationist 1. To help you prepare for these positions, you will engage in several activities and be offered hands-on and structured training opportunities in a variety of administrative skills.
Skills to be learned, include, but are not limited to, the following:
Counseling and Mentorship
· Practice promoting positive relationships with and between others, particularly Corpsmembers, by learning how to assist, and assisting them in resolving personal and interpersonal issues.
· Intervene with Corpsmembers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
· Engage in reporting and hone communication skills by clearly and accurately sharing concerns about, and accomplishments of, Corpsmembers with supervisory staff.
· Identify when it is necessary to and then make counseling referrals as appropriate.
· Practice being a role model by setting a good example and promoting positive lifestyle.
· Gain a deeper understanding of the CCC program by supporting the community Corpsmember Advisory Board (CAB), leadership Corpsmembers, and recreational/volunteer events.
Facilitation of Group Activities
· Organize and monitor on-center classes for Corpsmembers.
· Record activity hours on tracking sheets; ensure tracking sheets are turned in daily.
· Support evening education and recreation staff when needed.
· Monitor classes as needed.
· Assist in physical training and/or morning cleaning activities of Corpsmembers.
Logistical Support
· Monitor vehicles for cleanliness; follow up with drivers as needed.
· Assist other departments in special project work when approved by supervisor, work with other departments to obtain supplies using proper procedures, and address center maintenance concerns using current procedures.
· Deliver Corpsmember mail.
· Participate in ongoing training as requested.
Effective Communication
· Communicating with CCC staff leads verbally and in writing on project deadlines and milestones.
· Learning communication strategies and practice approaches to help organize and/or assist with providing guidance to individual Corpsmembers and crews.
· Taking direction from your supervisor and helping other Corpsmembers understand that direction and intentions.
· Learning about project reporting requirements, the importance of accuracy while reporting on project status, communicating obstacles and outcomes, including preparing project and program documentation.
· Providing feedback to Corpsmembers as needed either directly or to their Conservationist I Supervisors and other CCC staff.
· Coaching and mentoring Corpsmembers.
· Collaborating with others and building professional relationships with your team.
· Safety communication.
· Public speaking and facilitating large and small group trainings, demonstrations, etc.
· Engage in MS Teams meetings.
Time Management
· Setting and sticking to a schedule, tracking time and accomplishments.
· Identifying areas for, and implementing strategies, that lead to personal and/or organizational improvement and efficiencies.
· Communicating with your supervisor when priorities are unclear, more time is needed for assignments, unforeseen challenges arise, etc.
· Gain an understanding of how long program tasks are supposed to take, and if time adjustments or other expectations may need to be communicated to Corpsmembers to ensure completion and deadlines are met.
· Learn about potential project impacts outside of our control, such as seasonal wildlife protections, heavy emergency response timeframes, etc. to incorporate in project and program timeline planning and execution.
· Assisting other Corpsmembers with understanding importance of time management and staying on task to meet goals and deadlines.
Safety
· Evaluating program site and locations, tools and activities for safety concerns and taking appropriate action including reporting, documenting, flagging and mitigating.
· Ongoing daily monitoring, real-time correction of unsafe practices, engaging other Corpsmembers in safety vigilance, modeling safety best practices.
· Learn about the CCC's safety policies and procedures such as how to report workplace and/or program injuries and illness.
