From Ninja Coalition challenge courses to sports, arts, STEM-based programs, and more, we create unique and memorable experiences that inspire students. Our team is committed to safety, inclusivity, and fostering a love of learning and adventure. Our HOME BASE is in Redding CA, but we are looking to build a leadership team in the Visalia area.
Job Overview:
The Camp Director functions as an account manager for assigned school district partners. They are responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all aspects of intersession ELOP camps, including staffing, logistics, and operations. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong organizational ability, and a passion for working with students. The Camp Director will supervise site leads and California Adventure Camps staff, coordinate with high-level district administrators, manage budgets, and ensure programs run safely and effectively. This role reports directly to Amy Bernhard, Vice President/Executive Director of California Adventure Camps. Camps are held during Holiday weeks and throughout summer, must be available during these times.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:Program Development & Planning
- Create and implement detailed camp schedules based on district recommendations.
- Organize and coordinate supplies, materials, and travel logistics for camp teams.
- Ensure camps include a diverse range of age-appropriate, engaging, and inclusive activities
District & Partner Management
- Serve as the main point of contact for assigned school districts and administrators.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with district leaders to ensure programs meet expectations and align with district goals.
- Communicate regularly with district representatives to provide updates, address concerns, and support ongoing collaboration.
Daily Operations & Execution
- Oversee the on-site execution of camps, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety standards.
- Travel to camps across California (8–10 weeks per year) to provide leadership and oversight.
- Uphold uniform guidelines and professional representation of California Adventure Camps while on campuses.
Staff Management & Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise site leads and camp staff.
- Provide hands-on leadership and support to ensure staff deliver high-quality programming.Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive environment for staff and participants.
Student Engagement & Support
- Foster an inclusive and welcoming camp culture for all students, including those with disabilities and behavioral needs.
- Handle high-stress situations with professionalism, grace, and calm.
- Encourage positive student participation and resolve conflicts in alignment with camp values.
Budget & Resource Management
- Monitor and manage camp budgets, ensuring resources are used efficiently.
- Track and report on camp expenses and financial needs.
- Ensure program sustainability by balancing quality with cost efficiency.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure camps adhere to all safety protocols, licensing requirements, and district guidelines.
- Complete and maintain required certifications and training, including TB Test, Background Check, Mandated Reporter Training, and Brain-Based Learning Education Training.
- Model and enforce policies to ensure a safe, supportive environment for students and staff.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Regularly assess program quality through feedback from districts, staff, and students.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions to enhance program delivery.
- Contribute ideas for innovation and growth of California Adventure Camps programs.
Qualifications:
- Must live in or near the Visalia area
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before starting).
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Previous experience coordinating or managing youth-focused programs, summer camps, or enrichment activities highly desirable.Strong ability to manage logistics, staff, and operations simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with high-level school district administrators.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Creativity and adaptability to adjust programming to meet diverse student needs.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, especially when addressing behavioral challenges or supporting students with disabilities.
- Proficient in budgeting, scheduling, and administrative oversight.
