What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician-Mixed Practice position at Caldwell Veterinary Clinic?
Caldwell Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to provide skilled care to our patients and exceptional service to our clients. Our ideal candidate is well versed in small animal care, client communication, medical terminology, and veterinary procedures, with a passion for improving the lives of animals and their owners while working in a team-oriented environment. We are a two-doctor mixed animal practice that sees approximately 85% small animals, 10% bovine, and 5% equine. We do a variety of small and large animal medicine and surgery, emphasizing diagnostics, general wellness and client services. We offer a benefit package to full-time employees which includes a competitive salary based on experience, paid leave, and 401K matching. A BS Degree is not required. A CVT or RVT license is preferred but not required. Experience is required in small animals and a plus in large animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Communication: In-take patient history, provide status updates for patients, home care instructions, pre- and post-op instructions, medication administration and guidance. Address client medical questions with confidence and direct complex inquiries to veterinarians.
- Client Education & Support: Educate clients on preventative medicine, wellness care by age, vaccine requirements, laboratory procedures, and support hospital financial policies by preparing estimates and discussing financial commitments.
- Customer Service: Greet clients, escort them and their pets into exam rooms, ensure smooth transitions to the front desk, and promote the practice's products, programs, and services.
- Animal Handling & Care: Restrain animals safely and compassionately, assist veterinarians in medical, surgical, and dental procedures, prepare patients for surgery, administer anesthesia, monitor patients during surgery and recovery, and administer fluids. Feed, water, and clean kennels/cages during hospital stay, boarding, or during adoption process period. We also provide the City of Caldwell care, treatment, and boarding for stray animals until they are reunited, adopted, or euthanized.
- Facility & Equipment Maintenance: Properly care for all surgical materials, maintain hospital equipment and inventory. Ensure the surgery room, exam rooms, treatment areas and kennels are prepared/stocked and maintain cleanliness.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using a paperless medical record system (EzyVet), ensuring all procedures, vaccinations, and notes are documented for proper billing.
- Pharmacy Assistance: Assist with dispensing medications as directed by the veterinarian, prepare prescription labels, and appropriately package medication. Be prepared to go over the medications with clients to ensure proper understanding of instructions.
- Safety & Technical Skills: Follow DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety guidelines; administer SQ, IM, and IV injections; perform laboratory tests and knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance; take radiographs, place IV catheters and anesthesia monitoring. This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing.

Position type and expected hours of work:
- Full-Time or Part-Time
- Overtime may be required
- 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts Monday – Friday -Future possibility of 1 Saturday a month
- Weekend Kennel check shifts may be required
- One full weekday off (Full time)
