Caldwell Veterinary Clinic is seeking a compassionate and motivated Associate Veterinarian to join our growing mixed-animal practice in Caldwell, Texas. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys a combination of clinic and field work and has an interest in large animal and equine medicine.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough examinations and diagnose health issues in large animals such as horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and other livestock.
- Perform routine procedures including vaccinations, deworming, dental care, and animal husbandry tasks.
- Assist with emergency cases requiring critical care, ensuring prompt and effective treatment using aseptic techniques.
- Handle animal restraint safely and effectively during examinations and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Perform surgical procedures ranging from minor wound repairs to more complex surgeries involving large animals.
- Maintain accurate medical records, update client files, and communicate treatment plans clearly to pet owners and farmers.
- Utilize veterinary terminology accurately while explaining diagnoses and treatments to clients with clarity.
- Support laboratory testing procedures such as blood work or other diagnostics to aid in accurate diagnosis.
- Apply knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy to develop tailored treatment plans for individual animals.
- Assist with pet grooming, animal catheterization, and other animal care activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Veterinary degree from an accredited institution; valid veterinary license in good standing is required. DEA License required.
- Proven veterinary experience with a focus on large or mixed animal practice; critical care experience is highly desirable.
- Strong animal handling skills including dog handling, restraint techniques, and general animal husbandry.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and laboratory procedures.
- Experience with equine medicine is preferred; familiarity with pet grooming and pet care is a plus.
- Ability to perform aseptic techniques during surgeries or invasive procedures effectively.
- Laboratory experience related to diagnostic testing is advantageous.
