Position Summary
The AIG Specialist is a leadership-focused role designed to transition the district from a pull-out model to an integrated, classroom-based service model. Rather than providing direct student instruction, the Specialist serves as a strategic partner to classroom teachers and school-based AIG representatives. The primary goal is to build teacher capacity to deliver high-quality differentiation, ensuring that gifted learners' needs are met within the core instructional environment.
Required education, training and experience
- Bachelors degree in Education and licensed by the state of North Carolina
- Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience; proven track record of implementing differentiated instruction.
- Holds North Carolina AIG state license.
- Strong adult-learning facilitation skills; ability to analyze complex data sets; proficiency in instructional technology.
- Model & Co-Teach: Spend significant time in classrooms modeling advanced differentiation strategies and "compacting" curriculum for high-achieving learners.
- Personalized Learning: Support teachers in developing personalized learning pathways that allow gifted students to move at an accelerated pace.
- Resource Curation: Provide teachers with high-level supplemental materials, tiered assignments, and inquiry-based projects.
- Testing Coordination: Oversee the administration and data analysis of the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) and other identification metrics.
- Identification Process: Lead the school-based identification team to ensure equitable and accurate identification of gifted learners across all demographics.
- DEP Oversight: Train and support school representatives in the writing and implementation of Differentiated Education Plans (DEPs), ensuring they are living documents that reflect actual classroom practice.
- Staff Training: Design and facilitate ongoing professional development focused on the social, emotional, and academic needs of gifted learners.
- Community Engagement: Lead AIG Parent Nights and workshops to educate families on the new service model and how to support their children at home.
- Team Leadership: Act as the primary liaison between the districts AIG department and school-based AIG committees.
