Government Underwriter (DE/SAR)
Onsite – Coppell, TX (This is fully onsite and not a work from home opportunity)
Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM
Pay Rate: $85-95k/year
Contract: 12-month Contract (high potential for extension or conversion)
Job Summary: The Government Underwriter (DE/SAR) is responsible for evaluating and processing borrower workout options, including repayment plans, loan modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu. This role involves working directly with borrowers to help them retain or transition from their homes, while ensuring compliance with investor, state, and federal guidelines. The underwriter plays a key role in supporting timely and effective resolution of delinquent mortgage accounts..
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze loans for eligibility under repayment plans, modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu based on investor and regulatory guidelines (e.g., HAMP).
- Review borrower loss mitigation packages, identify deficiencies, and issue notices requesting additional documentation.
- Generate approval and adverse action notices in accordance with applicable laws and investor requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Fair Lending practices when referring borrowers for refinance options.
- Coordinate with Mortgage Specialists to gather required documentation and facilitate timely closings.
- Stay current on industry programs and investor requirements, including GSE and insurer guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records in internal systems and workflows, including investor approval tracking.
- Complete escrow analyses and pro forma calculations for loan modifications.
- Meet monthly workout-to-portfolio ratio goals.
Qualifications:
- 4 years of underwriting experience (Required)
- Direct Endorsement (DE) certification (Required)
- Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) certification (Preferred)
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Strong customer service orientation and professionalism
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and loan servicing systems is a plus
