Primary Purpose:
Coordinate, monitor, and develop aquatic programs for the district to ensure community use and promote good public relations between the school district and members of the community. Coordinate the facility reservation process, along with scheduling after-hours events, which will include monitoring safety, providing support, and resolving all related issues associated with the pool facility and usage.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Red Cross lifeguard certification, first aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification
Continuing Education/Training:
Lifeguard recertification (Includes CPR) every 2 years
Lifeguard Instructor Certification- every 2 years
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of facility operations and equipment pertaining to pool facility use
Knowledge of facility scheduling systems and reservation practices
Minimal computer software skills
Ability to manage and supervise students and staff during facility reservations and productions
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals
Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Pool management experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Facilities and Supervisory Management Responsibilities
- Maintain a presence at the pool facility and the work the regular hours as specified under the job duties of the pool manager.
- Professionally interact with students, staff, government agencies, and members of the public.
- Collaborate with others for the purpose of implementing and maintaining pool services and/or programs.
- Supervise the programming at the pool facility, i.e.: recreational swim, lap swim, club swim, in-district use, swim lessons, swim camp, rentals, etc.
- Work directly with maintenance and custodial staff on the overall operation of the pool i.e., schedules down time for pool maintenance. Submit work orders for custodial and maintenance staff, and report pool maintenance issues to maintenance according to protocol.
- Coordinate facility operations for reservations including lighting, audio visual equipment, door access, and, ventilation. Make last minute changes as needed.
- Coordinate the use of facilities from outside groups including obtaining required documentation and providing assistance as needed.
- Maintain records such as time sheets, payroll, transmittals to accounts receivable, accident reports, incident reports, health department inspections, staff certifications, and any other records deemed necessary for the pool facility.
- Determine the need for security and custodial staff for each event, and coordinate with the appropriate departments.
- Interview and recommend the hiring of lifeguards and swim instructors to the Director of Human Resources.
- Manage lifeguards and swim instructors.
- Inspect pool equipment and first aid supplies to ensure they are stocked and in good working order and in compliance with state codes. Order supplies and equipment as well as report equipment needing attention to maintenance for replacement or repairs.
- Attend after hours and weekend events and oversee pool facility use throughout the district. Assist and provide support and technical supervision to all students, staff, contractors, and lessees.
- Notify staff, students, customers and the public when the pool is closed due to weather, maintenance or other unforeseen emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the pool.
Safety
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, teachers, staff, lessees, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Inspect locker rooms, offices, restrooms etc., to ensure that sanitary conditions exist at all times. Notify custodial and/or maintenance when there is a problem.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work areas and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Ensure chlorine readings are being taken regularly by maintenance and pool staff to ensure that chlorine levels are normal. Notify maintenance of potential problems according to protocol and follows through to make sure they are resolved promptly and with as little interruption to programs as possible.
- When necessary, assist with risk management yearly insurance inspections, accident/injury claims and other legal issues concerning the pool.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Policy, Reports, and Laws
- Assist with developing, implementing, monitoring, and complying with district policies and procedures for facility use.
- Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents as required.
- Post payments, deposit funds, and process invoices in a timely manner.
- Collect and account for all fees taken.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard audio/visual equipment and related pool equipment hand tools and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, standing, and twisting.
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over). Moderate pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
Environment: Work is mainly inside. Walking surfaces may be slippery or uneven. There is occasional exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and electrical hazards. There are occasional irregular or prolonged hours.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
