Primary Purpose:

Maintain and supervise the district-wide HVAC and low temperature refrigeration equipment and employees, including directing and managing the energy management program. Develop and oversee an integrated districtwide energy management program that ensures efficient and effective use of energy resources and meets the comfort, health, and safety needs of students, staff and community.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

College hours, high school diploma, or GED

EPA Certified Universal Technician License

Texas Aire Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician License

Texas State Contractor License Type B (Preferred)

Experience in supervision, training, planning work methods and schedules

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of energy management program development and implementation

Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air-condition systems (HVAC)

Ability to use energy accounting and building automation software

Ability to analyze and interpret data

Ability to implement policy, procedures, and data

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics

Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets and databases

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

5 years experience in HVAC maintenance and energy management

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

General Operations

  1. Assume primary responsibility for the safe and functional condition of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  2. Perform and/or oversee repairs and preventative maintenance for HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  3. Coordinate and ensure daily HVAC work order/activities are prioritized and performed.
  4. Perform quality control on work completed by HVAC Technicians.
  5. Train assigned employees on policies and procedures and skills needed to meet job responsibilities.
  6. Respond to emergency repairs immediately and report problems to Maintenance Director.
  7. Analyze energy usage and conduct needs assessment for improvement of energy management procedures, equipment, and systems. Make recommendations for changes based on findings.
  8. Negotiate rates with local and regional utilities.
  9. Develop and implement control strategies in building automation software to increase energy efficiency of the HVAC and lighting systems.
  10. Work cooperatively with building principals and facilities directors to support use of school facilities for extracurricular activities in a manner consistent with energy management guidelines.
  11. Oversee the installation, repair, and modification of energy management equipment in district facilities. Recommend the disposal and replacement of obsolete equipment when needed.
  12. Develop and implement the district’s recycling and hazardous waste program.
  13. Be available to assist on short notice for emergency or overtime work.

Policy, Reports, and Law

  1. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including utility usage and wiring and installation diagrams of all energy management systems.
  2. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Budget

  1. Develop and administer the energy management budget based on documented needs and ensure programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
  2. Review bids, contracts, payments, or other financial documents related to energy management projects and monitor the purchase of all energy management equipment and supplies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct the work of HVAC technicians.

Assist Maintenance Director in recruitment, employment, and discharge of assigned employees.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; district vehicle; meters, gages, welding equipment, ladders, hoists, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching, climbing stairs/ladders, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying (physically able to lift up to 50 pounds)

Environment: Work inside in office environment; occasional work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; occasional exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, electrical hazards; may work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress

 

 

 

Salary : $52,000 - $74,100
