What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Architect position at Cahoon Kasten/INTEC Group, Inc.?
At Cahoon Kasten Architects, an INTEC Group studio, we’re about two things: people and design—and more specifically, how design impacts people. How they work, how they connect, and how they find fulfillment. We believe design has the power to enhance the human condition, and we’re passionate about doing just that.
Your Role
Cahoon Kasten/INTEC Group is a mid-sized firm that offers the project opportunities and growth potential of a larger company—combined with the close collaboration and hands-on involvement often found in smaller practices. As an Associate Architect, you’ll be engaged in all phases of the design process, from master planning through construction. You’ll contribute to the production of design and documentation deliverables that drive the success of projects across a variety of commercial sectors. You take pride in being both highly efficient and technically adept, while also valuing opportunities to flex your creative side and bring fresh ideas to the table.
This position is based in our Nags Head, North Carolina office. We value the balance between focused, independent work and the creative energy that comes from in-person collaboration. Our ideal candidate is local to the Outer Banks or planning a move to the coast. For the right fit, relocation assistance can be negotiated—because great talent and great views are worth bringing together.
As an Associate Architect on the INTEC Group team, you will:
- Support the team during the design process, in a variety of ways, from the production of preliminary concept deliverables through final architectural construction documents for multiple, concurrent commercial projects.
- Utilize hand sketches and 3D software to translate design concepts, create details and produce project deliverables, as required.
- Perform initial design code analysis, or code analysis research, for any given project; demonstrate a working knowledge of basic, applicable building codes.
- Produce construction documents consisting of plans, elevations, details and specifications, reflected ceiling plans and lighting designs; and materials and finishes.
- Assist in establishing schedules and phasing plans for projects.
- Edit and assemble specifications for assigned projects with support from the team.
- Provide technical coordination when collaborating with consulting engineers, as needed.
- Help with the finalization of all permit applications, building information forms, and associated permit forms following completion of the construction documents phase.
Qualifications needed to be successful in this role include:
- Professional degree (Masters or Bachelor) in Architecture from an accredited school.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Professional license or certification would be great, but not required.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup and other 3D modeling software.
- The ability to create construction documents, specifications, and other project deliverables, with minimal supervision.
- Experience with the entire project lifecycle, from master planning through post-occupancy.
- Strong, comprehensive knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications and construction techniques.
- Supportive, collaborative team member with the ability to work independently or collaboratively with project team members.
Qualified and interested candidates should submit a resume and a portfolio or work samplesto be considered.
