Café Birdie is a family owned and operated café located in downtown Edwardsville, opened March 2023. Our mission is to connect our community through delicious food and drinks. We pride ourselves on using quality products, making thoughtful food, and delivering exceptional customer service. Our menu features a wide variety of baked goods, a vibrant lunch and weekend brunch program, and an interesting selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Everything is made in-house using local and seasonal ingredients (whenever possible) sourced from growers, artisans, and farmers who share our passion for high quality food. We strive to build a better tomorrow by investing in what matters: a sustainable future for our people, our company, and our planet.

About the Job

At Café Birdie, an all-around cook is someone who can multi-task and jump in wherever needed. You will be prep food, work the food line, work the register, wash dishes, or whatever is required to have a successful day!
You are passionate about preparing quality food from scratch and creating incredible guest experiences grounded in care and respect. We invite you to grow as a team member and create community with us.

You Will

• Deliver exceptional hospitality to our guests, your fellow teammates, and all of our vendors and suppliers
• Prepare ingredients, cook dishes to our recipe specifications, and maintain a clean, efficient workspace.
• Stay cool and collected during busy services
• Support your team by taking joy in the tasks that keep the cafe running smoothly and beautifully - these tasks may vary, but can include cleaning, clearing and washing dishes, sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning and organizing, and taking trash out
• Uphold and follow all health, food safety, safety, and sanitation guidelines
• Promote a safe and respectful working environment

You are

• Eligible to work in the United States and 18 years of age or older

You have

• 1 years of food service experience
• Existing Illinois Food Handler's Certification or will obtain it within 30 days post-hire
• Good knife skills
• Great attitude
• Strong work ethic
• Strong sense of urgency
• Pride in presentation
• Excellent communication skills
• Basic math and computer skills
• A flexible schedule and are available to work mornings, weekends, and holidays.

Our Café All-Around position is a dynamic one! Below we've mapped out the physical demands that are essential to the role

• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Use of hands to reach, grip, turn, and perform precision work
• As needed squat, bend, twist, and reach for items below waist level or above shoulders
• Ability to lift, push/pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• As needed climb ladders, stairs, ramps and uneven floor and/or surfaces. For example, go up and down stairs to storage areas
• Ability to listen and speak. You're communicating and coordinating with your team to ensure everyone's success!

We are looking for full and part time employees who will become long term employees, not seasonal. We are open Monday - Sunday 8am - 2pm. With occasional evening events. You will never work late nights!
