Position Summary

To plan and provide direct therapy to students with speech, voice, language, or communication disorders, while assessing students and providing therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Implement the speech-language/hearing services within building(s) assigned in keeping with district, state, and federal guidelines
  • Assume responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed supplies
  • Process speech-language/hearing screening programs as prescribed by state law and district policy
  • Evaluate and assesse students with speech-language disorders to determine goals
  • Conduct regularly scheduled therapy for students s needed
  • Plan and implement the Individual Education Plan (IEP) as part of the transdisciplinary team
  • Provide information and assistance to teachers and other appropriate staff through such activities as consultation and in-service education
  • Maintain accurate files and paperwork for the individual students referred, screened, and/or receiving therapy or other school-provided services
  • Attend and/or conduct eligibility reviews and IEP meetings
  • Complete IEP, testing, and assessment paperwork for students in timely manner to comply with state and federal laws and regulations and district policies
  • Assess students with speech or language disorders and determine eligibility for services
  • Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech-language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Participate in the IEP committee regarding interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with speech and/or language disorders according to district procedures
  • Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services
  • Report student progress to parent(s) or guardian(s)
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom-based activities to improve oral skills of students
  • Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in the identification and understanding of students with communication deficits
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, ADE rules and regulations, and the local school board policies
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
  • Articulate the district's mission and goals in the area of speech-language therapy to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission
  • Adhere to all policies of the District and the Arkansas Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders
  • Skill in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others
  • Ability to travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as needed
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written form with students, parents and stakeholders
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, staff, and stakeholders

Certification/License

  • Must have Speech Language Pathology endorsement on teaching certificate
  • Master's degree from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders Program required
  • Successful completion of all required Praxis Exams
  • Valid Arkansas Speech Language Pathologist license granted by the Arkansas Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology
  • Successful completion of all background checks
