Position Overview
As our Custom Cabinet Finisher, you will own the final, critical stage of our manufacturing process. You will be responsible for preparing, spraying, and curing both flat cabinet components on drying racks and fully assembled cabinet boxes. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with high-end spray equipment and advanced chemical coatings, maintaining an immaculate finish across a wide variety of wood species.
Key Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Perform final inspection, detailed sanding, grain-filling, masking, and prepping of premium raw wood and MDF components to guarantee a flawless substrate.
- Coatings Application: Expertly mix, match, and apply high-end coatings, including waterborne finishes, conversion varnishes, stains, primers, and clear topcoats.
- Equipment Operation & Care: Setup, calibrate, and meticulously maintain professional spray systems (HVLP, AAA, or conventional spray guns), fluid lines, and pressure pots.
- Curing Management: Oversee the racking, staging, and curing timeline for flat doors, panels, and fully assembled cabinet configurations.
- Quality Control: Maintain an ultra-high standard of quality control. Inspect for runs, sags, orange peel, dust inclusion, or color variance, and perform expert touch-ups or repairs when necessary.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to shop safety protocols, including proper respiratory protection (PPE) usage, hazardous waste disposal, and spray booth ventilation management.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3 years of professional experience finishing high-end custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, or premium furniture.
- Technical Coating Knowledge: Proven expertise in handling and mixing industrial conversion varnishes and modern waterborne wood coatings.
- Equipment Proficiency: Deep mechanical knowledge of spray gun adjustments, air-to-fluid ratios, and spray booth operations.
- Color Matching: A sharp eye for color consistency, wood grain characteristics, and multi-step staining/glazing processes.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for 8 hours a day, lift up to 50 lbs, and work efficiently while wearing required respiratory equipment.
- Attention to Detail: A meticulous, perfectionist mindset with the patience required for high-end luxury fabrication.
