SUMMARY
The Heat Treat Technician is responsible for supporting the Heat Treat department ensuring products comply with quality standards while working in a team environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

1. Run equipment
2. Complete all assigned training timely
3. Consistently check and read job traveler comments and work instructions
4. Assist on the shop floor as needed
5. Perform maintenance as required
6. Adjust machinery as designated by the manager and CEL

7. Fixture product for heat treat

8. Learn to perform surface hardness testing on finished product

9. Read and interpret product drawings and evaluate them per applicable documents and standards

10. Organize and report surface hardness test results

11. Ensure product is properly processed to the applicable process standards
12. Work diligently, neatly, cleanly, and safely
13. Be disciplined and promote discipline in everything you do
14. Maintain a 5S workspace
15. Verify changes to production processes to confirm that the change implemented has been achieved without adverse effects on product conformity
16. Support alignment with company goals and objectives, safety regulations, company guidebook, quality and environmental standards, and all other company policies and procedures related to your role
17. Understand and follow ISO 9001 and AS 9100 systems and procedures
18. Notify your team leader of any issues or challenges
19. Communicate effectively with other team members
20. Report to personnel as described in the company’s organizational structure

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIFIC SKILLS
  • Basic math knowledge
  • Problem-solving skills
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Understanding of gauging and tooling applicable to the department, such as indicating micrometers, test indicators, gauge blocks, etc. if applicable

PREFERRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
    or currently attending high school while working within our co-op program
  • An entry level understanding of the principles of heat treat or the passion to learn them is highly preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk, focus, and listen. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus for inspection purposes.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those you may encounter while performing the essential functions of your job, however, those with disabilities may be accommodated.

The shop floor temperature remains at 72° throughout the year. Machines and parts become hot during production, which may slightly alter the overall temperature of your specific area. Certain tasks may require you to go outside during any part of the year, and some areas within the shop are exposed to open garages and windows, which can change the interior temperature as well.

Due to the constant production of parts, the noise level on the shop floor is high. Noise-reduction earplugs are available on the shop floor for those who need them.
