Position Summary

The Generator Service Manager is responsible for leading and growing C & R Electric's Generator Service Department. This position oversees the installation, maintenance, repair, and emergency service of residential, commercial, and industrial standby generator systems while ensuring exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, and profitability.

The Generator Service Manager provides leadership to technicians, develops customer relationships, manages scheduling and department operations, and helps expand the company's generator service offerings. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership, business development, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Service Operations

  • Manage daily scheduling of generator installations, maintenance, warranty work, and emergency service calls.
  • Coordinate technician assignments to maximize productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor department efficiency, profitability, and quality of work.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable electrical codes and manufacturer specifications.
  • Assist technicians with troubleshooting complex generators and transfer switch issues.

Customer Relations

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
  • Prepare estimates and proposals for generator installations, maintenance agreements, and repairs.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Promote long-term maintenance agreements and additional service opportunities.

Business Development

  • Help grow the Generator Service Department through new business development and customer retention.
  • Identify opportunities to expand generator sales and service offerings.
  • Network with contractors, builders, municipalities, facility managers, and business owners.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Monitor departmental budgets, labor costs, and profitability.
  • Review service reports, invoices, and work orders for accuracy.
  • Manage department inventory, equipment
  • Coordinate warranty claims with manufacturers.
  • Maintain accurate records using company software and reporting systems.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the department.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, electrical codes, and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and equipment inspections.
  • Maintain required certifications and encourage continuing education.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician license preferred.
  • Generator manufacturer certifications (Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs & Stratton, CAT, or equivalent) preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum of 5 years of electrical or generator service experience.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving electrical systems, engines, transfer switches, and controls.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting expertise.
  • Computer proficiency includes Microsoft Office and service management software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, climb ladders, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel to customer job sites throughout Michigan.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergency service calls as needed.

A successful Generator Service Manager will:

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
