Job Description
C. H. Nickerson & Co., Inc., an ENR Ranked leader in Environmental, Water and Wastewater Construction is looking to hire an experienced Site/Civil Estimator to join its team in Torrington, CT.
This candidate would be responsible for accurate and timely preparation of site work estimates on projects to be bid and should have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs and engineering and industry standard practices.
Responsibilities
Estimate project costs based on project information, blueprints, and or other documentation.
- Will be responsible for bidding major Site Excavation work for clients in the New England region.
- Develop labor and equipment rates.
- Prepare and present accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing.
- Send request for quotes to vendors and subcontractors.
- Review and understand bid documents and assess project risks.
- Understand project logistics and project schedule.
- Compare and analyze competitive subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Review quotes and estimates with the Executive Leadership.
- Develop conceptual site cost estimates for design build projects.
- Perform pre-construction duties and meetings with Clients, Owners, Subcontractors and Engineers. This would include attending pre-bid site meetings.
- Assist Project Management and Engineers to develop project related change proposals.
Required Skills:
- 5 years of Site & Civil construction experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred but not required.
- Site, Earth Excavation, utility & paving experience.
- Public works sector experience a plus.
- Advanced computer skills with estimating software, ProContractor estimating experience a plus.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Advanced computers skills with MS Excel.
- Extensive knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles.
- Well organized, flexible, detail oriented and multi-tasked.
- Excellent written an oral communicator
