SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE The Senior Mason Superintendent oversees union field masonry staff for all masonry scopes of work, including CMU, brick, cast stone, terra cotta, natural stone, and specialty masonry claimed by the mason’s union. Responsible for planning, executing, and managing masonry operations to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and compliance with company standards.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.General Duties:The Senior Mason Superintendent will be assigned to major masonry projects and will actively participate in field operations. An Assistant Mason superintendent will provide on-site oversight during periods when the Senior Mason Superintendent is engaged in corporate responsibilities.Supervise all union Mason Superintendents, Foremen, Journeymen, and ApprenticeConduct midyear and end-of-year performance reviews for Mason Superintendents and ForemenServe as main point of contact for Mason Union relationsParticipate in union meetings and contract reviews with company representativesResearch and test new technology to improve field efficiencyAttend industry conferences and trade events as requiredParticipate in recruitment and career fairs as neededBuild relationships with local suppliers, fabricators, and construction management firms to secure steady work for masonry staffCollaborate with internal staff, union officials, construction managers, and design professionals to resolve issues Organize and lead internal masonry meetings and team-building outingsHelp plan Annual Mason Safety TrainingsParticipate in development of Superintendent Training Program and Superintendent Bi-Annual Meetings.Manage resource planning, recruitment, training, retention, and succession planning for the masonry workforce. Quality Control & Compliance:Uphold company and industry certification programs Understands The Masonry Society (TMS) 402 Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures and TMS 602-22 Specification for Masonry Structures. Work with the Quality Control Director on certifications, surveys, inspection guides, procedures, audits, turnover, and closeoutEnsure materials testing is completed per project specifications for Grout and Mortar.Ensures tolerances are met regarding Line/Level, Dimensional, Joints, Embedment, Steel, and Elevator Coordination. Works with Quality Control Director to update, maintain, and enforce the C.D. Smith Flashing StandardsFamiliar with Masonry Contractors Association of America Quality Assurance Best Practices.Familiar with International Masonry Institutes Details and Best Practices for Drawing Reviews, Interface details, Wall Assemblies, Flashings, and Efficiencies.Preconstruction:Coordinate with estimators to assign manhours at bid time for all masonry scopesAssist in development of sequence/logistics plans and participate in phase planning for masonry workWork with Field Operations and Project Management on Standard Masonry Submittals. Review shop drawings for constructability and safety.Work with project management to procure masonry reinforcement and head of wall anchors. Develop Job specific hot and cold weather masonry procedures for submittal. Provide constructability review of masonry efficiencies such as prefabricated lintels and CAD BLOX Layout / modeling. Properly plan and obtain caulking, expansion joint, and head of wall details. Lead mockups for all projects to ensure constructability and workmanship requirements are being met. Work with company Scheduler and Project Managers to develop and manage schedules for masonry activities.Work with south yard manager to plan scaffolding setups for upcoming jobs. Review bracing, rigging, and equipment selectionReview stability engineering and required submittals for sequence planningVisit projects prior to masonry start to ensure readiness and coordinate start datesAssign manpower to crews to meet productivity rates and schedulesConstruction: Responsible for overall profitability and man-hours for all masonry jobsManage productivity and trend charting (estimated vs. actual hours)Track and adjust productivity rates Start up new jobs on site and remain as needed to ensure successful completionMentor and train younger Mason Superintendents on siteRegularly visit all jobs with self-performed masonry work Lead actions to resolve constructability, fabrication, productivity, delay, weather, or emergency issuesReview washing and sealing techniques developing relationships with local vendors and subcontractors. Closeout:Submit lessons learned for all projects after masonry work is completeCross-reference previous lessons learned during preconstruction for upcoming projectsAnalyze actual productivity rates and maintain a database for future workParticipate in project closeout meetings as requestedBasic Qualifications:Union Mason Superintendent status with standard union requirements met15 years of large-scale commercial construction experience, with 10 years in a supervisory positionOSHA 30First Aid / CPR CertifiedCertified to operate relevant equipment (forklift, aerial lift, etc.)Competent person for Fall Protection, Bracing, Hydro Mobiles, Scaffolding, and SilicaQualified RiggerWillingness to participate in advanced certification and training programs International Masonry Institute (IMI) Supervisor Certification Program (SCP)Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) - National Masonry Certification - Program SupervisorESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Thorough understanding of union contracts.Thorough understanding of project contracts, architectural and structural plans, specifications, and regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
