Mechanical Estimator – Industrial Construction

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to join our growing industrial construction team. This role is critical to the success of our preconstruction and bidding efforts across large-scale industrial and commercial projects throughout the Northeast and Southeast.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience estimating mechanical construction scopes including industrial equipment setting, rigging, piping systems, conveyor systems, structural/mechanical installations, shutdown work, and heavy industrial maintenance. Candidates with prior field experience as a Millwright, Welder, Rigger, Ironworker, Boilermaker, or multi-craft mechanical tradesman are strongly preferred.

Office Location & Travel Expectations

This position is ideally based out of our:

  • Franklinville, NJ Headquarters
  • Gibsonville, NC Office

However, we are open to considering highly qualified candidates for:

  • Remote work arrangements
  • Hybrid schedules

Please note:

  • Travel will likely be required for site visits, pre-bid walkthroughs, client meetings, and project support
  • Candidates should be comfortable traveling to active industrial construction job sites as needed

Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, specifications, bid packages, and technical drawings to prepare accurate mechanical estimates and proposals
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for labor, material, equipment, rigging, fabrication, welding, and subcontracted work
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for:
    • Industrial machinery installation
    • Precision alignment and equipment setting
    • Conveyor systems
    • Rigging and heavy equipment setting
    • Mechanical assembly and bolt-up work
    • Plant shutdowns and maintenance projects
    • Welding and fabrication scopes
  • Analyze project scope, schedule requirements, labor productivity, and material pricing
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations
  • Coordinate with project managers, operations teams, and field leadership during bid development
  • Conduct occasional site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs
  • Prepare bid summaries, scope clarifications, exclusions, and value engineering recommendations
  • Assist with project turnover meetings after award
  • Track estimate performance and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support change order pricing and cost analysis during project execution

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • 40 hours per week
  • Must be willing to work overtime as project demands require
  • Fast-paced industrial construction environment supporting multiple active bids and projects
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during major bid deadlines

Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in mechanical estimating, industrial construction, or mechanical project management
  • Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems and installation methods
  • Prior field experience in one or more of the following trades strongly preferred:
    • Millwright
    • Welder
    • Rigger
    • Ironworker
    • Boilermaker
    • Multi-craft Mechanical Tradesman
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Mechanical drawings
    • P&IDs
    • Structural drawings
    • Equipment layout drawings
    • Isometric drawings
    • Specifications and bid documents
  • Strong knowledge of labor productivity, installation sequencing, and industrial construction workflows
  • Experience pricing labor, equipment, subcontractors, materials, and fabrication scopes
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking

Experience with one or more of the following is highly preferred:

  • Bluebeam Revu
  • Trimble AutoBid Mechanical
  • PlanSwift
  • Procore
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Construction takeoff and estimating platforms

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary starting at $85,000 annually (based on experience)
