Design Engineer – Automotive Interior Components
Location: Plymouth, MI
Department: Engineering / Product Development
Position Summary
The Design Engineer supports the design and development of automotive interior components for major OEM programs, primarily Toyota and Honda. This role collaborates with internal teams, suppliers, and OEM customers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective designs from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop automotive interior parts following established product development processes
- Create, modify, and validate CAD data using CATIA V5
- Coordinate with OEM customers on design requirements and changes
- Support supplier coordination including RFQ activities and technical reviews
- Prepare cost estimates per internal procedures
- Receive and distribute customer design data to internal teams and suppliers
- Support trial builds and evaluations at customer, supplier, and internal facilities
- Collaborate with overseas design teams once fully trained
- Support R&D initiatives and operational efficiency improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- Proficiency with CATIA V5
- Experience with automotive product design preferred
- Familiarity with OEM development processes (Toyota / Honda a plus)
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
