Purpose
The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will teach (problem solving methodologies), lead and guide a team (Ops, Quality, Engineering) for problem solving and testing for Operations to sustain production in alignment with the original design specifications from R&D.

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will teach (problem solving methodologies), lead and guide a team (Ops, Quality, Engineering) for problem solving and testing for Operations to sustain production in alignment with the original design specifications from R&D.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a group through problem solving for plant yield or process improvements, including training on problem solving techniques (fishbone, 8Ds, etc.) and guiding the team for proper documentation and resolution in alignment with the R&D team
- Manages hand off from Research and Development to production implementation and documentation
- Manages collective intelligence meetings and problem-solving using expert tools including Red X, fishbone, 5 whys, etc. to quickly solve problems and implement preventative measures for future monitoring
- Track all problem solving on scrum board for proper escalation and involvement from management/expert resources
- Evaluates manufacturing process by designing and conducting research programs.
- Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching testing methods, and conferring with equipment vendors.
- Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
- Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods.
- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs.
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services.
- Completes/implements design and development projects by writing procedures, and guiding and training technicians
- Maintains professional technical knowledge by attending educational workshops.
- Evaluates quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in quality control.
- Analyze production processes, schedules, methods and other data and then provide management with reports containing the data and statistics to enable management to better understand future requirements needed for the manufacturing process.
- Ensure that the company’s manufacturing processes follow all government laws and regulations.
- Review and calculate labor, material and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making.
- Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and make sure that manufacturer’s procedures and instructions are followed to keep production equipment operational.
- Manage Value Stream Mapping current state and future state for department.
- Develop, implement and train on process improvements for yearly cost savings goal.
- Work with the Training Manager and Safety Coordinator to ensure every employee is following the OSHA guidelines for safety and training .
- Evaluate and enhance existing SOPs to implement new systems and solutions; include new processes, development and tracking.
- Keep track of key Operation metrics including but not limited to OTD, yields, waste, reprocessing, scrap.
- Monitor and recommend improvements for OCOS metrics (labor, absorption, overhead, etc.).
- Ensure plant shipments are made on time and to the customer order specifications.
- Collaborate with production teams to assess planning and purchasing performance and identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Cost improvement projects including but not limited to improving yield.
- Maintain LEAN and Six Sigma culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Six Sigma Green Belt required (Black Belt preferred).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented mindset.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to lead and mentor others.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in a Manufacturing field.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards or other relevant quality frameworks.
- Primarily based in a manufacturing or production environment, with potential exposure to shop floor conditions.
- Occasional travel may be required to coordinate projects.
