Position Purpose:
The Assistant Dean of Medical Education will contribute to improving the medical education offered by the college by focusing on aspects of curriculum development, student advising and faculty development. The Assistant Dean will work closely with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, and Clinical Education leadership to foster synergistic and mutually beneficial collaborations leading to school-wide continuous quality improvement.
- This position reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
- This position is exempt.
- This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position.
Examples of Duties
- Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the medical school curriculum to ensure it meets accreditation standards and prepares students for their careers.
- Update leadership on data trends, quality improvement, and retention-related matters.
- Coordinate with the Offices of Preclinical and Clinical Education to integrate the clinical and bio-medical sciences into the complete curriculum strategic plan for the College’s academic program.
- Identify areas for improvement in medical education and implement strategies to enhance the learning environment and student outcomes.
- Work with faculty members to enhance their teaching skills, promote research in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and contribute to the overall quality of medical education.
- Facilitate, develop, and institute innovative programs and methods to support faculty in implementing engaging and maximally effective instructional sessions.
- Provide support to Academic Affairs in the planning and completion of Annual Program Reviews and Academic Program Reviews as required.
- Work with Course Directors to develop and implement a course remediation strategy
- Work with Student Affairs and Advising Colleges to provide recommendations for student support related to overall learning and improvement of Board Exam performance.
- Maintain active connections with peer and industry partners to stay apprised of new and emerging academic technologies in a way that directly informs innovation and investments in education
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to develop, carry out, explain, interpret, and enforce policy.
- Strong history of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external personnel at all levels.
- Skill with computer software programs and student information systems
Minimum Qualifications
- Terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, etc.)
- Experience in instructional design and delivery.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Assessment, Policy, Teaching, or Higher Education preferred.
- College teaching experience in medicine or another scientific discipline.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in medical education.

- Approximately 90% of this position’s duties require the use of a computer.

Work Schedule:
- Typically, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm
- May occasionally require evenings and weekends.
